Description

The company provides payments, data and financial products in one solution to customers including Meta, Uber, H&M and Microsoft, and is a leading financial technology platform.

You would join Identity & Verification Services, part of the Unified Platform organization. The team builds the systems that verify every business on the platform before it can take its first payment, and maintains the legal entity data behind those checks across every jurisdiction and merchant type served.

The team built a verification framework for KYC that can run hundreds of different checks, including automated checks with third-party data providers, document reviews and checks carried out by operations teams.

The team is made up of engineers who solve hard technical problems at scale together, and the company builds its products to help businesses grow faster.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and grow a team of 7 engineers.
  • Own the team's roadmap and delivery together with Product.
  • Act as a technical partner to your engineers by taking part in system design and architecture reviews, asking pointed questions and signing off on key decisions. You will not write production code day to day, but the role is technical.
  • Guide how the platform scales, including migrating existing checks, adding versioning, making new checks simpler to build and opening the platform to uses beyond KYC.
  • Align with leaders across Unified Platform and with product teams in other organizations that rely on verification, agreeing on priorities and technical direction.
  • Set clear goals and priorities, and create conditions where engineers feel safe to take ownership and drive their own initiatives.
  • Hire and develop engineers who do well in a fast-moving environment.
  • In your first month, learn the platform, the domain and the people, and build relationships with your team, Product and partner teams. By three to six months, own the team's roadmap and delivery, have earned the team's trust, and be shaping the next stage of the platform's scaling.

Requirements

  • A people-first engineering manager who gives clear direction, lets engineers own their work and builds a team where people feel safe speaking up.
  • Technically credible with senior engineers, with a strong backend background and enough knowledge of distributed systems to review designs, question trade-offs and spot risks.
  • Experience running systems built for real scale, in an organization past the early startup stage.
  • Able to take ownership of an established team quickly and earn trust while doing so.
  • A strong collaborator who works well with Product and peer engineering leaders and can get stakeholders aligned on technical decisions.
  • A clear communicator who can explain complex technical subjects to engineers and to non-technical audiences.
  • Minimum qualifications:
  • 2+ years of people management experience leading software engineering teams, covering performance management, career development and hiring.
  • 7+ years in software engineering, mainly backend development.
  • Experience with distributed systems in production at scale in any modern backend language.
  • Experience with Java.
  • Exposure to KYC, identity verification, onboarding or compliance-driven systems.
  • Experience building B2B platforms.
