Engineering Lead, Payments

This role leads the build-out and scaling of the company's payments infrastructure. You will shape the architecture, build critical payment capabilities and guide the team through the technical challenges of global growth. You have already built payment systems at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and build payment flows, recurring billing and provider integrations, carrying projects from initial design into production.
• Guide architecture decisions, write and review code, and work alongside the team on the hardest problems.
• Own system reliability. Investigate production issues, improve observability, and make the systems handle failures, retries and growth better.
• Lead engineering delivery. Break complex problems into clear plans, coach engineers, and be accountable for shipping and running high-quality systems.
• Link engineering work to business results by partnering with Payments, Product, Finance and Operations to raise payment success, cut losses and support global expansion.

Requirements

• You have personally built and scaled production payments infrastructure, from architecture through implementation and ongoing operation.
• You have deep experience with payment processing, recurring billing, provider integrations and reconciliation.
• You make sound judgment calls in distributed systems, particularly around financial correctness, idempotency, consistency and failure recovery.
• You have led engineers through complex architecture decisions, migrations and production incidents.
• You combine the technical depth and judgment to simplify complicated systems and raise the quality of the team's decisions.
