Description

The Real Estate team is growing because client demand has increased, and the company is looking for Engineering Design Managers at both experienced and developing levels to join a supportive team.

The role suits people who create smarter, safer and more efficient designs for critical national infrastructure. Design managers here act as strategic thinkers, collaborators and problem solvers, not only technical leads.

You will work directly with clients to make sure the final product fits its purpose. You will lead design input on multi-disciplinary projects from early concepts through to delivery.

Projects span transport (rail and aviation), defence, real estate and highways. The company's clients are leading industry change, and the company wants to hear from people at different career stages about what it can offer them.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Project Manager to manage the agreed contract with external design consultants, making sure they meet their contractual duties and taking action if they do not.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams of engineers from consultants and partner companies so that solutions reach the required design level.
  • Evaluate designs and solutions.
  • Collaborate with technical, operational, maintenance and strategic stakeholders, along with design coordinators.
  • Liaise with clients, engineering managers, project managers, contractors and consultants on project issues, scope changes and risks.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of design and management experience.
  • Around 5 years managing design through the full project lifecycle, ideally across several sectors and procurement routes.
  • Experience in building fit out, defence industry and machine integration is preferable.
  • A strong grasp of integrated design delivery and of managing consultant performance.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and common data environments.
  • A degree or HNC, or equivalent, in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Strong practical knowledge of construction work types, methods and design solutions.
  • Experience with CAD, such as AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with both clients and staff.
  • Self-driven, results-oriented and positive.
  • Skills in people management, time management and project design management.
  • A genuine interest in construction and customer satisfaction, with high standards.

Conditions

The company promotes a healthy, productive and flexible working environment that supports work-life balance.

The company is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

Applicants should never be asked to pay a fee at any stage of recruitment.
