The company is expanding its industry-leading network to improve how people, businesses and devices connect. This is a RAN Performance Engineer role covering LTE and 5G, leading wireless testing, field work, parameter tuning and node migration across multi-vendor networks, including mmWave, C-Band, DSS and Clean NR.
Your focus is on KPI results that keep service quality and user experience steady. Customers expect the network to perform well at all times, and your work directly affects satisfaction and the company's position against competitors.
The role suits someone who enjoys being first to find a fault and working it through to a fix. You will be expected to use AI tools where they save time, as the platforms in this area change quickly.
Responsibilities
Optimise, troubleshoot and maintain network systems and applications to protect availability and performance.
Review network coverage, find gaps, recommend fixes and help put them in place.
Open and update problem-tracking tickets across several systems and keep improving how the team works.
Run indoor RF coverage assessments: collect scanner data, review RSRP, SINR and PCI pollution, and locate coverage holes or interference.
Compare KPIs before and after changes, and fix serious RAN issues such as dropped calls, poor throughput, interference and handover failures.
Analyse VoLTE and 5G drive test results to improve accessibility, retainability and MOS, and to cut audio gaps.
Carry out multi-band LTE and 5G optimisation.
Make RF shaping changes such as mechanical or electrical tilt and azimuth, plus parameter changes, to balance traffic and raise capacity.
Track service performance trends and find the root cause of affected services.
Run field drive and walk tests, post-process logs for the relevant technologies and KPIs, and analyse Layer 3 drive data to build optimisation plans.
Diagnose and fix in-building system faults, working with senior engineers on customer problems.
Support customer eFEMTO deployments and act as the main contact for customer-facing issues.
Drive ongoing improvements in network and capacity optimisation.
Coordinate technical investigations and tests with regional, area and headquarters teams.
Provide technical analysis, troubleshooting and training support to markets and regions when asked.
Improve 5G and LTE RAN performance using both established and newer methods.
Investigate and resolve customer service complaints.
Support integration of new cell sites, including small cells and indoor and outdoor DAS.
Requirements
You have a Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of work experience.
You have 3+ years of relevant experience, gained through work and/or military service.
You have a proven record of leading a team, mentoring others and overseeing technical work.
You solve problems well in difficult field conditions.
You communicate clearly, both to work across teams and to present technical material.
You are willing to travel up to about 25% of the time.
You care about customer service, take ownership of issues and see them through.
You follow set processes and procedures reliably.
You work well at every level in a fast-paced, changing network environment and can cover rotation schedules.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
A degree.
Expertise in 4G and 5G.
5+ years of hands-on RF field testing, optimisation and wireless network deployment.
Solid working knowledge of 3GPP standards across CDMA, EVDO, LTE, VoLTE, CBRS and 5G (mmWave, C-Band, DSS, Clean NR).
Proven work with Samsung and Nokia macro and small cell hardware.
Skill with field drive test tools and post-processing software such as TEMS, XCAL, XCAP, JDSU, WindCatcher, TrueCall, xLPT, IRIS and Optis Analyzer.
Experience with RF planning and reporting tools such as Atoll, MapInfo Professional and Google Earth Pro.
Experience tuning and validating propagation models so predictions match real drive, walk or field data.
You are encouraged to apply even if you do not meet every 'even better' item.
