Description

The company's Space Systems group is hiring a software manager to lead embedded software engineers working across several Launch Systems programs in Chandler, AZ.

You will oversee about 10 software engineers, with plans to grow the team to around 15.

The job combines people management with hands-on technical and program delivery, focusing on direct execution, technical reviews, staffing decisions, and delivery across programs.

You will work closely with Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, GN&C, program leaders, chief engineers, and functional leads to solve technical, staffing, and execution problems.

You will support and be accountable for the goals listed below.

Responsibilities

  • Align staffing, hiring, retention, and growth plans with embedded software program work across the portfolio.
  • Run performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, and development plans for engineers, following the enterprise review cycle.
  • Help build and keep current the software processes, development standards, peer review expectations, and disciplined delivery methods for embedded code.
  • Direct teams through each software lifecycle stage: requirements, design, coding, integration, testing, verification, release, delivery, and sustainment.
  • Encourage sound engineering habits for embedded, real-time, and mission-critical software, including technical reviews and hands-on help when execution gets hard.
  • Work with systems, electrical, and GN&C engineers, program leaders, chief engineers, and functional leaders to clear software technical, staffing, and execution issues.
  • Split your time between managing people and supporting technical and program execution, including staff assignments that keep several programs on track.
  • Drive improvements in tools, automation, DevSecOps workflows, quality practices, software affordability, and delivery.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of professional experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years. An additional 4+ years of experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • An active U.S. Government Secret clearance at the time you apply, current and within scope.
  • Professional software development experience in embedded, real-time, mission-critical, aerospace, defense, or similar hardware-integrated settings.
  • Preferred: experience leading or technically guiding embedded software teams in defense, aerospace, or other mission-critical work.
  • Preferred: experience with C/C++ and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Preferred: experience with embedded software development, integration, verification, release planning, and delivery in a high-tempo development setting.
  • Preferred: people leadership experience covering coaching, mentoring, performance management, staffing, hiring, retention, and/or development planning.
  • Preferred: a track record of balancing people leadership with direct technical and program execution.
  • Preferred: experience working with Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, GN&C, and other cross-functional technical partners.
  • Preferred: familiarity with EVMS reporting, CAM duties, and working within cost and schedule limits.
  • Preferred: strong written and verbal communication, including explaining technical risks, priorities, and tradeoffs to technical and program stakeholders.
  • Preferred: familiarity with supply chain, procurement, logistics, mission assurance, and production operations partners.
  • Preferred: integrity in conduct, balanced results, and partner satisfaction, with a habit of nurturing growth, building collaborative teams, and earning customer trust.
