Description

The company is an international humanitarian organization, founded in 1933, that responds to some of the world's worst crises. It works to restore health, safety, education, and economic wellbeing for people affected by conflict and disaster, operating in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities.

Education is a core part of that work. The company aims to get even the hardest-to-reach children into school and help them learn, measuring success across all ages from infancy to young adulthood. Its goals cover safe and responsive schooling, early childhood learning, primary and post-primary learning, school safety, and gender equality.

The Education Technical Unit works with the company's research and innovation department to design, test, and scale solutions that reach teachers and learners at the last mile. One example is an AI-powered teacher professional development program, delivered through low-tech, widely accessible channels, for teachers in under-resourced, crisis-affected, and multilingual classrooms.

This role supports content and pedagogy quality assurance across this work, checking that what teachers experience is sound, context-appropriate, and safe. Most of the work will focus on the AI-powered program at first, and may later extend to other teacher support and education innovation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Test digital course flows, chatbot responses, and prompts for accuracy, clarity, pedagogical fit, and cultural appropriateness.
  • Share testing notes with developers and work with them on fixes that keep pedagogical quality intact.
  • Red-team digital content to find edge cases, harmful outputs, and safety gaps.
  • Keep clear QA logs that record issues, findings, and resolution status across the initiatives you support.
  • Turn test results into prioritized recommendations, separating content fixes from product or design fixes, and flag content that may not achieve its learning purpose.
  • Review usage, completion, and engagement data next to QA findings, spotting early signs of whether content supports teacher learning and uptake, and pass patterns to senior technical and MEAL colleagues.
  • Troubleshoot content issues raised by country teams or found through data and program monitoring, and help test new features, materials, and updates before release.
  • Review teaching and learning materials across Education Technical Unit projects on request, checking pedagogy, evidence alignment, and context fit.
  • Refine quality frameworks and rubrics for digitally delivered pedagogical content, including context fit and alignment with evidence-based practice.
  • Document QA and content development processes, criteria, and lessons learned for internal use and external sharing.
  • Link testing and QA findings to evidence on teacher engagement, classroom practice, and learner outcomes, helping the team understand what drives impact in digital and AI-enabled teacher support.
  • Help senior technical and MEAL colleagues turn content and QA insights into evaluation questions and learning agenda priorities.
  • Write accessible knowledge products such as blog posts, working papers, and briefs on what quality looks like in technology-enabled and conventional teacher professional development.
  • Support presentations, funder updates, and partner briefings that draw on QA findings and learning across projects.
  • Apply quality frameworks and documentation practices to other unit content and teacher support materials on request.
  • Work with government bodies, local partners, and local content creators to develop and adapt program content that fits local curriculum, global best practice, and user interface requirements.
  • Draft and refine short, structured digital course content based on strategy, templates, and evidence-based pedagogy.
  • Build one-off or thematic modules for identified needs, such as managing test anxiety during exams or supporting children with learning difficulties in large classes.
  • Review and refine deliverables such as quiz questions and strategy descriptions, and support localization review for new cultural and operational settings.
  • Develop teaching and learning materials for other unit teacher support and innovation initiatives on request, using existing company resources, established course outlines, and local input.
  • Propose alternative formats in which courses and learning games can still count as recognized coursework, with completion criteria, evidence of learning, and assessment logic, that move away from the standard module-and-assessment structure and suit educators working with low connectivity, messaging-based tools, and limited time.
  • Help senior technical staff scope and assess needs for new deployments, contexts, and delivery methods.
  • Provide flexible content, quality assurance, and documentation support across the Education Technical Unit and its work with the research and innovation department as priorities change.
