Description

The E-Discovery team sits within the legal department and includes lawyers, project managers and e-discovery analysts who support case teams and agency counsel with electronic discovery needs. The team advises on and carries out strategy, legal holds, data collection and processing, review setup, analytics and productions, and also helps in negotiations with opposing counsel, at court conferences and on drafted papers.

This Project Manager role is mainly project management and technical work rather than legal work. You will help Assistant Corporation Counsel attorneys respond to production requests in litigation, Freedom of Information Law requests, civil investigative demands, subpoenas and other document demands.

You will work with case teams, colleagues in the division and outside service providers to plan and run each stage of the data lifecycle, from collection through final review and production. The work is hands-on, moving electronic data and images in and out of several e-discovery platforms.

The role suits lawyers who want public service work, especially managing and collecting critical litigation documents.

Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys through every step of the e-discovery process, from collection to final review and production.
  • Hands on management of collecting, processing, loading, reviewing and producing electronic data and images across various e-discovery platforms.
  • Work with case teams, division members and outside vendors to build and carry out data handling strategies.
  • Give clear, concise specifications and instructions to case teams and service providers.
  • Run several projects at once, keep detailed task records, and troubleshoot issues as they come up.
  • Provide customer support and training.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of e-discovery principles, practices and technologies.
  • Experience guiding attorneys through all stages of e-discovery, from collection to final review and production.
  • Extensive experience with Relativity, technology assisted review workflows, and the tools used to collect, process, convert, review, search and produce electronically stored information.
  • Advanced skills in databases, spreadsheets and text editing tools.
  • Experience with mobile device discovery.
  • At least three years of litigation support or e-discovery experience after graduating from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York Bar and good standing.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, and an eagerness to learn new e-discovery technologies and workflows.
  • Careful attention to detail and problem-solving skills, since data must be secured and exchanged in a legally defensible way.
  • Excellent time management, the ability to work independently, and the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.
  • A commitment to public service and to the values of excellence, dedication, diversity, integrity, justice, professional development, respect, supportive work environment and teamwork.

Conditions

Salaries for new attorneys are set by post law school legal experience, which usually lines up with law school graduation year.

0 to 5 years of legal experience: $87,737 to $122,300.

5 to 10 years of legal experience: $111,665 to $137,188.

10 to 15 years of legal experience: $129,744 to $159,521.

15 to 20 years of legal experience: $152,077 to $180,791.

More than 20 years of legal experience: $166,966 to $188,235.

Candidates with highly specialized experience may be offered pay slightly above these ranges when the role needs that expertise or the position is hard to fill.

After orientation, attorneys may choose one of two remote work programs.

Flexible remote work: limited, irregular work from home days.

Citywide pilot: remote work on two set days per week, subject to division approval and staffing needs. Participants keep one designated remote work location, and in-person obligations come first over scheduled remote days. The pilot is being tested across city agencies and is not yet permanent.
