This Distinguished Engineer role in Product Engineering leads technology development for enterprise use cases on private and public wireless networks, with a focus on dynamic network slicing.
The Enterprise Network Solutions team, part of Business Product Engineering, needs a network and technology expert to define network architectures and drive innovation for network solutions and slicing programs.
You will track technology road maps, generate intellectual property ideas, and set standard deployment architectures for emerging focus areas.
You will study industry trends and work with vendors and partners to recommend network technologies that help enterprises grow their business.
Responsibilities
Work with technology partners, network and technology vendors, and system integrators to create new architectures for products, in step with product teams and direct customer work.
Lead discussions across planning, ME, engineering, and operations to agree on architectures through network project processes, holding to the highest quality standard.
Recommend which solutions and deployment architectures to pursue, and build infrastructure for testing, incubation, and connections with internal and external partners.
Design and build the infrastructure for trials, and oversee hardware and software development in line with product roadmaps.
Turn customer needs and challenges into technology solutions, and work with leaders across network and business teams to build cohesive, monetizable solutions that keep products and revenue growing.
Requirements
Deep technical background in end-to-end wireless architectures, including 4G/5G RAN and core, private wireless networks, and network slicing.
Strong knowledge of current and upcoming 3GPP standards, and the ability to turn them into vendor requirements.
A track record of innovation, such as defining architectures, writing IP or patents, or putting new capabilities into operation.
Strategic thinking to create key action plans, set architectural baselines, and align cross-functional teams despite ambiguity and shifting priorities.
Ability to work in high-stakes deployment environments and act as a mentor and technical authority for peers and network teams.
Ability to influence stakeholders and decision makers with evidence from research and testing.
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
Eight or more years of relevant experience, gained through work, military service, specialized training, or a combination of these.
Experience in wireless networking, network architecture, or systems integration, including leading large-scale network architecture or integration projects.
Experience with 4G/5G core networks, MEC, IP routing, RF design, and edge or private network deployments.
Even better: a Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Even better: understanding of end-to-end wireless architectures and enterprise connectivity solutions.
Even better: familiarity with dynamic network slicing principles and deep understanding of end-to-end slice enablement.
Even better: experience building strong relationships with stakeholders, technical partners, vendors, and cross-functional leaders.
Even better: excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to executives.
Even better: a self-motivated leader who does well in high-ambiguity settings.
Even better: experience with basic QoS network principles, especially as applied in the RAN.
Even better: a proven record of innovation, including patent filings or defining scalable, productized technical standards.
Even better: strong mentoring and technical leadership skills that build team capability and field operations expertise.
You are encouraged to apply even if you do not meet every 'even better' item.
