Description

This is an individual contributor and tech lead role for a director-level cloud architect in Atlanta, reporting to the Senior Director, Global Cloud Platforms.

You will set the direction for cloud architecture that supports the company's digital platforms and products at scale, turning enterprise cloud strategy into standards, solution patterns and implementation guidance that speed up digital delivery and modernization.

The work centers on keeping cloud solutions secure, resilient and cost-efficient while staying aligned with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and Data & AI priorities. You will work across a highly matrixed global organization with platform engineering, digital product teams, Data & AI and regional technology teams to spread cloud-native architecture and modern engineering practices.

The goal is faster time-to-market through simpler, standardized architecture, which supports business growth, operational efficiency and innovation. The company has operated for 130+ years.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain cloud architecture standards, reference architectures and reusable solution patterns that match enterprise digital and data strategy.
  • Set integration and interoperability standards for multi-cloud environments, enterprise platforms and business-critical applications.
  • Lead architecture design and review for cloud solutions across products and platforms, with a focus on scalability, resilience and security.
  • Set enterprise reliability standards covering service tiers, SLIs and SLOs, error-budget policies, recovery objectives, capacity planning and failure-mode analysis.
  • Work with digital product and engineering teams to build in cloud-native designs such as microservices, containers and API-first approaches.
  • Promote standard design patterns that speed delivery and cut duplicated work across global teams.
  • Guide application and infrastructure modernization, including moving legacy systems to cloud architectures.
  • Work with Data & AI teams so cloud architecture can support analytics, machine learning and AI workloads.
  • Push forward Zero Trust principles, platform security controls, identity-first design and secure software supply chain practices.
  • Sit on architecture governance forums and review boards to make sure work follows enterprise standards and long-term technology direction.
  • Shape DevOps, automation and platform engineering practices to improve developer experience and operating efficiency.
  • Define reusable patterns for observability and production readiness, covering telemetry, SLO-based alerting, resilience testing, automated recovery, runbooks and blameless post-incident learning, and build them into cloud platforms and paved delivery paths.
  • Grow cloud architecture skills across the team through mentoring, knowledge sharing and adopting current best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related technical field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years in cloud architecture, solution design or enterprise technology roles.
  • A record of designing and delivering cloud solutions in complex, matrixed environments.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud architecture principles, including scalability, resilience, performance and cost optimization.
  • Experience designing hybrid and multi-cloud architectures at enterprise scale on SAP Cloud, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, governance models and standardization approaches.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust frameworks, cloud security posture management (CSPM) and security controls in infrastructure as code.
  • Experience modernizing applications with cloud-native technologies such as containers, Kubernetes and serverless architectures.
  • Proven use of SRE and resilience engineering at enterprise scale, including SLOs, error budgets, observability, production-readiness reviews, incident learning and disaster-recovery architecture.
  • Ability to work across functions and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Clear communication that turns complex technical ideas into business-relevant insight.
  • Proven digital and data fluency, including familiarity with data platforms, analytics and AI-driven workloads.
  • Listed skills for the role: Agile Methodology, Application Development, Atlassian JIRA, Business Processes, Business Process Modeling, Cloud Platform, Communication, Data Flow Diagram, DevOps, Digital Transformation, Disaster Recovery (DR), Enterprise Architecture Framework, Enterprise Content Management (ECM), Incident Management, Java (Programming Language), Kotlin Programming Language, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint, Mobile Applications, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), Resilience Engineering, Service-Level Objective (SLO), Site Reliability Engineering, User Experience (UX).
  • You must already be authorized to work full time in the United States. The company will not sponsor employment-based visas for this role, including H-1B and other employment-based nonimmigrant visas, so you cannot need its sponsorship to keep working legally in the US.
