The company is modernising its core networks to support new products and technologies, and this role helps lead that work.
You will be a Detail Engineer on Ultra Long Haul, responsible for detail equipment engineering across several networks and build programmes.
You will run several projects at the same time and stay involved through each build, especially when technical problems come up.
Responsibilities
Write detailed technical installation instructions (I-SPECs) for new and existing technologies, following our standards.
Make sure these instructions cover project-specific installation details, equipment configuration, card and port assignments, power mapping and sizing, copper and fibre running lists, diversity requirements, floor space and rack placement, and a major and minor Bill of Materials.
Prepare pre-engineering and site survey documents for network projects, and raise Front Door Requests for installations at VzW sites.
Confirm that work meets the applicable engineering, financial, planning and operational standards.
Work with Centre Engineering, Field Engineering, Operations and other implementation teams to collect pre-engineering information, site data, redlines and end-of-job records.
Give technical guidance on First Office Application (FOA) projects, drawing on existing installation setups to propose workable solutions.
Keep all engineering documents, including ICON/CND, CCP, Canvas and VENUe, accurate and current for install, test, implementation, operations, provisioning, planning, Network Capacity Manager, service assurance and audit teams.
Resolve a range of engineering issues with internal and external partners.
Manage several projects at once and give regular updates on network upgrades and reconfigurations for customer growth, plus decommissioning work that frees space and power and saves cost.
Identify, track, report, escalate and coordinate engineering issues of any size until they are resolved.
Keep in close contact with the project sponsor or originator, functional team members and your manager so problems are spotted early and status is reported on time.
Requirements
You are self-driven and have experience designing and implementing complex, distributed systems.
You enjoy pursuing engineering excellence and picking up new technologies, and you are comfortable driving results with multi-functional teams.
You have a bachelor's degree or relevant work experience.
You have strong, demonstrable problem-solving skills.
Even better if you have: the ability to work well both in a team and independently on your own projects, with a positive attitude.
Even better if you have: good verbal and written communication skills.
Even better if you have: knowledge of one or more of these domains: SONET, DWDM and Long Haul Transport Systems, Backbone Routing and Switching systems, Physical Server Deployments, or Voice Switching platforms.
Even better if you have: hands-on or remotely directed telecoms installation experience.
Even better if you have: proficiency in using AI tools to speed up technical research, documentation and problem-solving.
You are encouraged to apply even if you do not meet every "even better" item.
