Description

The company designs, builds and delivers complex maritime projects for defence and security, offshore, public transport and dredging customers. The work is international and multidisciplinary, with close contact to customers, suppliers, subcontractors, engineering teams and shipyards worldwide.

This role sits in the Defence and Security product group and is open to a Design and Proposal Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • You turn customer requirements into vessel solutions that are technically feasible, competitive and appealing. During the commercial and tender stage you work with Sales, Tender Management, product specialists and engineering to produce ship designs, technical specifications, scope definitions, cost calculations and delivery time input.
  • You help shape proposals for complex defence and government vessel opportunities. Depending on your experience, you either contribute concepts and proposal work under senior guidance, or lead the improvement of existing designs, the development of new concepts and support for colleagues on proposals. The scope can be adjusted to fit your experience.
  • You translate customer, market and tender needs into vessel concepts, proposal designs and technical solutions that follow the company standards.
  • You prepare and keep up to date ship designs, technical specifications, scope descriptions, assumptions, exclusions and proposal documents.
  • You work out cost price elements, check technical feasibility and advise on delivery time, planning and commercial decisions.
  • During bidding you support Sales and Tender Management with technical input, presentations, clarifications and proposal reviews.
  • You work with product specialists, research, engineering, production, supply chain, services and other internal teams to build complete, reliable proposals.
  • You improve standard and customer-specific designs for quality, reliability, functionality, competitiveness and ease of manufacture.
  • You identify technical risks, interfaces, deviations and trade-offs and document them clearly for internal decisions and customer discussions.
  • You contribute to proposal handovers, lessons learned, product improvements and further standardisation of the Defence and Security portfolio.
  • You make sure proposal work follows the company governance, HSSEQ, ethics, export control, compliance and approval processes.

Requirements

  • A completed technical education, preferably in shipbuilding, naval architecture, marine engineering or a comparable field.
  • Relevant experience in ship design, naval architecture, proposal engineering, product development or a similar technical setting. Junior, medior and senior candidates are all considered.
  • Interest in complex vessels, defence and security markets, government customers and engineer-to-order projects.
  • A good grasp of customer requirements, technical trade-offs, design standards, cost awareness and proposal processes.
  • Experience with ship design tools and engineering software. Knowledge of 2D and/or 3D design tools is an advantage.
  • You combine technical accuracy with commercial awareness and a customer focus.
  • Strong English communication. Dutch is an advantage.
  • A structured, proactive and collaborative way of working, handling several priorities and stakeholders at once.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to customers, shipyards or other the company locations when needed.
