Database Engineer

This role builds and runs secure, scalable data stores that support applications and analytics. You will work with the AHE application and data teams on schemas and performance, and automate operations using AWS and infrastructure as code to improve reliability, cut cost and speed delivery from development to production.

Responsibilities

• Create database solutions that scale and fit business needs.
• Install, configure and upgrade database software and its tooling.
• Track performance and tune queries, indexes and schemas for stability and speed.
• Set up and maintain AHE database security controls that protect sensitive data.
• Work with application developers on schema design and SQL.
• Investigate incidents and resolve them quickly in every environment.
• Write and update AHE documentation covering architecture, configuration and runbooks.
• Plan capacity and recommend infrastructure improvements.
• Run and support AWS database services such as RDS, Aurora and Redshift.
• Keep up with new database technologies, patterns and practices.

Requirements

• Solid working knowledge of AWS and infrastructure as code for database resources.
• Proven experience as a Database Engineer or DBA.
• Deep knowledge of AHE DBMSs such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server and Redshift.
• Strong SQL skills and query optimization.
• Good grasp of data modeling, normalization and schema design.
• Practical experience with performance tuning and monitoring.
• Understanding of backup, restore and disaster recovery procedures.
• Knowledge of database security best practices.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication and collaboration skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving, changing environment.
• Preferred: AWS networking fundamentals.
• Preferred: Experience with Terraform Cloud and IaC workflows.
• Preferred: Automation or scripting with Python or Shell.
• Preferred: CI/CD for databases using tools such as Bamboo, Flyway or similar.

Conditions

This is an on-site role, five days per week.

The salary range is $110,000 to $125,000.

The actual pay depends on factors including location and the candidate's knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training and experience.
