Description

Founded 20 years ago and headquartered in Chicago, the DV Group of financial services firms has grown to more than 600 people operating throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Since spinning out of a large brokerage firm in 2016, DV Trading has rapidly scaled as an independent proprietary trading firm utilizing its own capital, trading strategies, and risk management methodologies to provide liquidity to worldwide financial markets and hedging opportunities to commodity producers and users. Now, DV group affiliates include two broker dealers, a cryptocurrency market making firm, and a bourgeoning investment adviser.

We are seeking a Database Engineer Intern to support the health, performance, and reliability of our database environments. Throughout the summer, you’ll work cross functionally with data and technology teams, giving you real visibility into how data powers the business. Under the guidance of senior team members, you'll help monitor performance and support critical maintenance and troubleshooting efforts through automation, documentation, performance tuning, and data migration/disaster recovery efforts.

  • Help troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents
  • Support the creation and maintenance of database documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures

  • Write and optimize basic SQL queries for data retrieval, reporting, and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with software engineers and analysts to support data needs across teams
  • Help identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational tasks
  • Learn and apply database performance tuning fundamentals (indexing, query optimization)
  • Assist with data migration, replication, and disaster recovery testing efforts

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or related field and expected to graduate by Summer 2029
  • Understanding of relational database concepts (tables, indexes, keys, normalization)
  • Familiarity with SQL and writing queries
  • Exposure to at least one database platform (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL)
  • Basic understanding of Linux/Windows operating systems
  • Experience coding in Python
  • Exposure to other scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Ability to work onsite at our Chicago office 5 days per week
