Description

The company is hiring a data scientist on a temporary contract running until the end of 2027, joining the Data Science Development team in Uppsala R&D.

The team advances data analysis for both external customers and internal use, and the work covers a product's full life, from early concept through to support after launch. The focus is data science and bioinformatics.

Eligible candidates are either a recent PhD graduate with up to 2 years of industry experience, or an MSc with at least 4 years of industry experience.

The company is a proteomics business within a larger life sciences group. Its panels measure thousands of proteins at once from a few microliters of blood, supporting human protein biomarker discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Build methods and tools for data analysis, for both external and internal users.
  • Take part in developing new products at every stage, from concept to the period after launch.
  • Contribute to research and design work on concepts, product ideas and products, following project plans and schedules.
  • Create and refine quality control methods, and help find and fix data problems.
  • Build solutions that monitor and analyse quality control parameters for products and processes.
  • Help shape future bioinformatics and data analytics tools for internal use.
  • Run internal training in programming, data analysis and data quality control.
  • Advise other departments on study design and advanced data analysis.

Requirements

  • An MSc or PhD in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science, molecular biology or a similar field.
  • An advanced degree with 2 years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree with 4 years, in data science or a related field.
  • Experience integrating, harmonising and analysing complex data in life sciences, biotechnology, biopharma, healthcare, clinical research, diagnostics or laboratory settings.
  • Advanced skill in R, Python and SQL for processing, transforming, analysing and automating data.
  • Moderate experience applying statistical methods in medical or biological research, particularly to high throughput proteomics and genomics data.
  • Experience with cloud and scalable analytics platforms such as AWS, Azure, Spark or Databricks, plus DevOps and version control with Git.
  • Strong written and spoken communication in English.
  • A sharp analytical mind and an interest in modern statistical methods and machine learning.
  • The ability to turn complex scientific and business problems into analytical solutions, and explain technical ideas clearly to scientific, technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Enjoy hard problems, work well alone and with others, and keep up with new technologies.
