Description

The company's data science group sits within a larger clinical data and statistics function and brings people, process and technology together to produce business value from clinical trial data.

This role helps the group deliver on program and study goals set for Data and Statistical Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Align data science study teams with program and study strategies, and help govern assigned programs and studies inside and outside the function. Programs can vary in size and complexity.
  • Act as the single point of contact and accountable operational lead from data science for assigned programs. Coordinate the related study teams to hit operational goals and connect with global functional and cross-functional groups at program and study level.
  • Influence managers and cross-functional colleagues at every level without relying on formal authority, and represent data science in cross-functional forums and, where assigned, leadership meetings.
  • Use operational analytics and project management tools to run programs and studies efficiently, manage internal and external resources, track study progress and write status reports. Spot issues that could threaten timelines or quality early, and propose options and fixes.
  • Make sure work follows federal and local regulations, Good Clinical Practices, ICH guidelines, company SOPs and functional quality standards. Keep up with changing local rules, guidance and policies on clinical development. Coordinate and take part as the data science study owner in regulatory inspections and internal quality audits.
  • Help oversee vendors and give feedback on clinical trial operations, problems and performance trends.
  • Coach and mentor team members and contribute to their development.
  • Lead data science and cross-functional innovation and process improvement efforts.
  • Where assigned, identify training gaps, standardize training for data science roles and deliver it. Run cross-functional lessons learned sessions.
  • May directly or indirectly supervise staff and contract resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management information systems, computer science, life sciences or an equivalent field. A master's degree is preferred. PMP or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is a plus.
  • 8+ years in pharma, clinical research, data management or health care, or 10+ years in project management, plus relevant work experience.
  • Deep knowledge of clinical trial processes, the functional stakeholders involved and clinical technology. You must have led a clinical trial from start to finish.
  • Proven track record leading across functions.
  • Proven ability to influence people without direct authority.
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor in a matrix environment.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
