Data Platform Admin (Remote)

Description

The role is hands-on work with data platforms and production workflows: troubleshooting problems, improving how systems run, and owning issues from investigation through to resolution.

You will work mostly on your own while collaborating with a small data team.

The role reports to the Director of Enterprise Data & Analytics and works alongside data engineers and analysts to run and secure the data platform.

The company is growing, so you will also write down ownership, procedures, and recovery steps to keep the platform dependable.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain Airflow workflows, covering scheduling, dependencies, monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting.
• Build and support pipelines and integrations across the warehouse, transformation layer, code repository, and other parts of the platform.
• Set up and maintain platform environments, integrations, and settings.
• Manage users, roles, permissions, and service accounts, enforcing least-privilege access, secure credentials, and row-level security.
• Watch pipeline freshness, data volume, and failures; investigate problems, restore service, and stop them from coming back.
• Support GitHub, CI/CD, testing, and documented release practices for platform and pipeline changes.
• Judge how access and configuration changes affect downstream work, and coordinate with analytics engineers and analysts.
• Keep records of operational procedures, ownership, and recovery steps as the environment expands.
• Flag security risks to the appropriate Executive Leadership Team member and help fix them.
• Take on other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience administering or supporting a cloud data platform and its production workflows.
• Experience with dbt, lineage best practices, and stage-dev-prod architecture.
• Working SQL skills for validating data, tracing pipeline issues, and debugging warehouse queries.
• Working knowledge of Python or another scripting language used for automation.
• Experience with a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration, scheduling, monitoring, alerting, and recovery.
• Experience building scalable data systems and pipelines.
• Experience configuring platform environments, integrations, users, roles, permissions, and service accounts.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative testing and release practices.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and follow-through.
• Ability to coordinate platform changes with analytics engineers and analysts, including judging their downstream impact.
• Completion of ongoing security awareness training and compliance with company policies.
• Experience with Airflow, Snowflake, and Fivetran.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric or Azure services.
• Familiarity with Power BI refreshes and their data platform dependencies.
• Experience implementing CI/CD or automated testing.
• Familiarity with APIs, OAuth, service accounts, and secure credential management.
• Experience supporting a growing company with changing systems or acquisitions.
• IT, VAR, distribution, or supply chain data experience.

Conditions

Working hours are US Eastern time, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm ET.

Salary range is 35,000 to 50,000 USD.
