Description

The team in Manching handles aerodynamic design and characterisation for all military aircraft programmes across their life cycle.

The work combines numerical simulation, wind tunnel tests and flight tests to understand aerodynamic behaviour and produce aircraft-representative data and models for stability and control, performance, loads and aeroelastics.

The team also sets safe separation envelopes for external and internal stores and for plume ingestion, and supports production by assessing aerodynamic impact on non-conformities, repairs and in-service incidents.

This is a senior role at Professional experience level in the Flight & Space Physics job family.

Manching is a market town about an hour's drive north of Munich, with countryside living, leisure and cultural options, and larger cities within easy reach.

Not a 100% match? The company supports personal growth with customised development solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Own the aerodynamic modelling strategy for high-agility fighter aircraft.
  • Oversee how wind tunnel, flight test and numerical simulation data are combined.
  • Drive the development of future methods for modelling aerodynamic datasets.
  • Direct the evaluation of aerodynamic characteristics on high-agility fighters.
  • Provide technical direction for wind tunnel and flight test campaigns.
  • Set the method and structure for modelling aerodynamic datasets across the full flight envelope, covering stability and control, performance and loads.
  • Give expert review of flight test data to improve the aerodynamic databases.
  • Push new approaches such as data fusion and machine learning to upgrade predictive capability.
  • Coach junior and mid-level engineers toward technical excellence and continuous learning.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree or PhD in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics or an equivalent field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in aerodynamics and flight mechanics, with a record on fighter aircraft programmes.
  • Deep skill in analysing and interpreting wind tunnel and flight test data.
  • Advanced programming in high-level languages such as Python or C++, with proven work putting machine learning, AI and data fusion algorithms into production.
  • Strong leadership: guiding technical teams, running complex projects and influencing stakeholders.
  • A track record of making high-stakes technical decisions under pressure while balancing technical perfection against cost and schedule.
  • Clear communication, presenting complex aerodynamic concepts to non-specialists and senior management.
  • Fluent English.
  • German is an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel within the country and abroad.
  • An awareness of potential compliance risks and a commitment to acting with integrity.
