Description

The Controls Quality team is hiring a controls quality engineer focused on operability to raise the testing, reliability and quality of wind turbine control algorithms.

You will check control features that reduce turbine load, spot anomalies in operating data, and improve turbine output through advanced control methods.

You will work with controls development so that what happens in the field feeds into validation, defect prevention and future designs. The role matters for fleet operability, customer experience and turbine performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or support root cause analysis and PAC investigations into turbine operability and control behavior.
  • Review fleet operating data to find emerging risks, performance gains and defect trends.
  • Assess control algorithms for load mitigation, anomaly detection and performance optimization.
  • Improve validation strategies so they confirm operating behavior under realistic field conditions.
  • Find the routes by which defects escape and put preventive quality fixes in place.
  • Help build test methods that catch operability defects earlier.
  • Work with controls development to tighten requirements and widen validation coverage.
  • Team up with fleet performance management on field trends and customer impact.
  • Review availability, downtime, forced outages, nuisance trips, alarm rates, restart performance and customer escalations to find quality gains.
  • Turn field findings into engineering recommendations and validation changes.
  • Provide independent quality review of operability risk ahead of release readiness reviews.
  • Use Lean methods and data-driven decisions to improve product quality and operations.
  • Use AI-enabled analytics to spot trends, anomalies and areas for improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science.
  • At least 5 years of controls engineering experience.
  • Desired: 8+ years of engineering experience.
  • Desired: experience with wind turbine controls and turbine operability.
  • Desired: experience with load mitigation, anomaly detection or performance optimization controls.
  • Desired: skill in fleet performance analysis and trend identification.
  • Desired: experience writing validation plans and test strategies.
  • Desired: knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools.
  • Desired: experience supporting RCA, PAC and structured problem solving.
  • Desired: strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Desired: experience presenting technical recommendations to leadership teams.

Work location is Greenville, SC, Schenectady, NY, or Barcelona.
