Description

The company is a Fortune 100 business with close to $70 billion a year in sales, and this role sits in its Technology team.

The Consultant, Software Engineering helps design, build, run, and keep improving reusable enterprise AI platforms and services that let teams ship trustworthy AI at scale.

You will work in a cross-functional product and platform team, turning requirements into secure, reliable, maintainable capabilities, using solid engineering practices, and contributing shared patterns, reference architectures, controls, and accelerators.

The work covers production readiness, service management, observability, supportability, and cost visibility for what the team builds and runs. The ideal candidate has a strong base in software engineering and cloud, a product and AI-first outlook, quick learning, teamwork, and a readiness to own operational results when things are unclear. You should be able to tell when a reusable platform capability fits better than a one-off solution.

As a Software Engineer, you will mentor and guide others to deliver high-quality, cost-effective technology for business partners, whether you build new applications or change and support existing packaged or custom-built ones.

Responsibilities

  • Apply secure software and systems engineering throughout the delivery lifecycle so data and technology stay protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Mentor and train teammates on design techniques, tools, and coding standards.
  • Give strategic technical advice on how technology can meet business and technology goals.
  • Coordinate and drive projects that span several teams.
  • Analyze, build, test, debug, document, and deploy moderately complex software in line with standards and best practices.
  • Promote DevSecOps practices, tools, and methods to improve quality, security, automation, and delivery speed across teams.
  • Juggle several medium to large projects, with their priorities, deadlines, and deliverables, and stay ahead of them.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.
  • You report to a Technology Manager or Director.

Requirements

  • Experience designing, building, and running enterprise AI platforms and agentic systems that use AWS AgentCore and AWS Bedrock to develop, deploy, govern, and scale AI applications and agents.
  • Experience with agent orchestration frameworks such as Strands, and with Model Context Protocol (MCP) for securely connecting agents to enterprise tools, services, and data.
  • Experience with model management, covering selection, evaluation, testing, versioning, deployment, monitoring, guardrails, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with token economics and AI cost optimization, including analyzing token use, forecasting usage, monitoring model utilization, managing inference cost, and applying financial governance.
  • Experience with operational excellence for reliability, observability, security, and cost control, including monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, incident management, performance tuning, resiliency patterns, and SLOs.
  • Experience with cloud-native engineering using APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture, containers, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and platform automation.
  • Knowledge of AI governance, security, responsible AI controls, and risk management that supports compliant, secure adoption of AI.
  • Six or more years of programming, software engineering, or systems analysis experience.
  • Hands-on technical leadership, including leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
  • A proven record of solving complex business and development problems and working well in a team.
  • Preferred: an undergraduate degree in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Preferred: three years of project management experience.
  • A plus: knowledge of the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies, and experience, may outweigh these requirements. Any exception to the listed requirements needs approval from the hiring manager's leader and an HR Business Partner.
  • Consistently demonstrate the company's values.
