Description

The company is a healthtech business within a larger life sciences group. It is reworking the infrastructure and operations behind its SaaS platform alongside its global teams.

It applies technology, data and AI to life sciences work.

This is a senior technical role in the Platform Operations group, covering the global SaaS platform with a focus on AWS, Kubernetes (EKS) and database operations (MongoDB and/or RDS Aurora). You will mentor junior engineers, lead automation work and help set the standards that keep the platform secure, reliable and cost-efficient at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Run day-to-day operations across AWS accounts, including EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, VPC and IAM.
  • Handle patching, scaling, performance tuning and backup strategy across the environment.
  • Act as the escalation point for major incidents, leading root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews.
  • Raise resilience through automation, standard patterns and proactive monitoring.
  • Redesign CI/CD pipelines (ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) for higher reliability and less deployment friction.
  • Automate repetitive operational work using Python, Bash or similar.
  • Work with engineering teams to make environment setup and deployments smoother.
  • Coach CloudOps engineers on CI/CD patterns and operational guardrails.
  • Lead cost efficiency across compute, storage, data services and networking.
  • Review usage trends and steer right-sizing, modernisation and storage tiering decisions.
  • Work with engineering and FinOps teams to forecast cloud spend and find savings.
  • Define and track cost KPIs for each service.
  • Own day-to-day operation of MongoDB and/or RDS Aurora, including tuning, scaling, failover and backup and restore validation.
  • Diagnose and fix complex database problems that affect availability or performance.
  • Advise application teams on efficient MongoDB and RDS Aurora usage.
  • Help improve backup, disaster recovery and data resilience.
  • Build and improve monitoring, alerting and dashboards in CloudWatch, Grafana, Splunk and OpenTelemetry, and write runbooks, SLOs and playbooks.
  • Reduce alert noise and sharpen response processes.
  • Promote observability across teams to cut MTTR and raise uptime.
  • Enforce IAM governance, least-privilege access and secure operating patterns.
  • Lead patching, vulnerability remediation and evidence gathering for SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA.
  • Work with Security to stay audit-ready and reduce operational risk.
  • Find control gaps and help automate continuous compliance.

Requirements

  • Required: 5, 8+ years in CloudOps, DevOps, SRE or infrastructure engineering.
  • Required: hands-on experience running AWS at scale, including EC2, RDS, EKS, S3 and CloudWatch.
  • Required: production experience with MongoDB and/or RDS Aurora, covering operations, optimisation and disaster recovery.
  • Required: strong scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash or similar.
  • Required: hands-on experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and deployment platforms.
  • Required: strong troubleshooting and performance tuning across cloud, networking and application layers.
  • Required: experience with observability tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, Splunk and OpenTelemetry.
  • Required: ability to mentor junior engineers and lead operational improvements.
  • Desired: advanced Kubernetes operations on Amazon EKS, including scaling, upgrades and troubleshooting.
  • Desired: strong understanding of FinOps principles and AWS cost-management tooling.
  • Desired: experience with other data technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or Kafka.
  • Desired: familiarity with regulated environments such as HIPAA, GDPR, NIST or GxP.
  • Desired: experience contributing to DR planning, failover testing or reliability engineering programmes.
