Description

This is a Chief Technical Architect role, also titled Sr Staff Systems Architect, with the company's defense systems unit in Warner Robins, GA. The post sits in the Integrated Mission Solutions operating unit and works as a technology lead for that unit.

The job turns early ideas into funded internal research projects, builds a library of reusable technology, and helps the unit win lead and supporting roles in new markets.

Responsibilities

  • Run internal research projects from start to finish: create concepts, write business cases and proposals, plan the work, and measure results against business unit and division strategy.
  • Coordinate technical work across organizations on internal research and competitive bids, spanning business units, divisions and sectors.
  • Study sector, division and business unit technology roadmaps to find emerging capabilities and markets. Build unit technology that fits those roadmaps, apply it where the unit can lead, and support franchise pursuits.
  • Advise on and lead technical solutions for technology-driven capture efforts. Advise on system architectures for major new development programs, and take part in proposal writing and reviews.
  • Help the Engineering Department Manager promote technology reuse, modular design, a product mindset, and cooperation between technical leads and chief engineers across the unit's programs.
  • Work with the Engineering Department Manager and contracts staff to track intellectual property and data rights from concept through delivery, protecting company-owned technology.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 14 years of experience, a master's degree plus 12 years, or a PhD plus 10 years.
  • An active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
  • A proven record of delivering RFI and RFP responses on time, including white papers, technical solutions, basis of estimates, and technical volumes.
  • Proven experience planning and running research and early design work, such as internal research, customer-funded research, or early engineering and manufacturing development.
  • Experience designing and deploying technical solutions across several programs and sharing knowledge between them.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, sound decisions with limited data, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for talking with both technical staff and business leaders.
  • Preferred: experience across design and delivery of electronic systems for military use, such as ruggedized hardware, embedded software, or firmware.
  • Preferred: background as a technical authority, chief engineer, or chief architect for a large program or organization.
  • Preferred: skill at quickly breaking down a problem and producing system architecture, block, and sequence diagrams.
  • Preferred: experience with system-of-systems solutions and architecture.
  • Preferred: proven ability to deliver technical solutions with minimal data and loose requirements, and knowing how to get the data needed to build them.
  • Preferred: domain knowledge in electronic warfare, counter-UAS, sensors, radar, or payloads.
  • Preferred: experience building business cases and conducting market assessments.
