The company keeps its network running across Northeast Ohio, from building new sites to maintaining existing ones. This role is based in the Cleveland Zone and covers the Greater Cleveland area and surrounding counties.
The work spans cell sites, small cells, HUBs, and supporting infrastructure, and you will spend 80-85% of your time in the field.
You will join a team of people who listen, learn from each other, and support one another in both hard and good times.
The role is designed to lead to advancement to Senior Engineer, with further opportunities for those ready to take them.
Responsibilities
Commission new cell sites from start to finish, including fiber circuit testing, router upgrades, vDU server build-out, RMU installation, alarm checks, network integration, call testing, and 911 testing, then bring the site into service with complete, accurate documentation.
Carry out circuit upgrades, including swapping physical equipment, testing, validating, cutting over, and completing all activation paperwork.
Support small cell deployments and temporary infrastructure for special events.
Work with general contractors to line up field schedules and address commissioning milestones early where you can.
Troubleshoot 4G LTE and 5G NR issues, including radio outages, vDU server maintenance, and RAN performance faults.
SSH into Cisco 540 series (IOS), Ciena 5164 (SAOS), and Nokia devices to configure, troubleshoot, and isolate faults.
Work through routing and connectivity problems involving BGP, ISIS, VLANs, hub-and-spoke topologies, and IEN hub infrastructure.
Troubleshoot HVAC, generators, and GPS, knowing when to fix an issue yourself and when to escalate it.
Use Samsung USM and other network management platforms to find fault conditions, manage alarms, and follow work until it is resolved.
Complete preventive maintenance at assigned sites accurately and according to established procedures.
Open, manage, and close trouble tickets across several systems, and look for ways to handle them better.
Take part in an on-call rotation covering nights, weekends, and holidays within a 24x7 operation.
Propose new ideas, including AI-assisted workflows, that improve how the team works.
Handle physical demands that may include climbing stairs and ladders, working at height, lifting and carrying up to approximately 65 pounds, pushing, pulling, grasping, twisting, bending, crawling, squatting, and kneeling in tight spaces.
Requirements
Have an associate's degree or two or more years of work experience.
Have three or more years of relevant experience, from work, military service, or both.
Be willing to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Understand networking fundamentals, including the OSI model, TCP/IP, VLANs, and routing protocols such as BGP and ISIS.
Be comfortable with Linux and command-line tools, and able to troubleshoot in CLI-driven environments.
Have experience using SSH to troubleshoot routers, switches, and servers.
Be willing to travel up to approximately 75% of the time.
Hold a valid driver's license.
Be willing to drive a company vehicle across the Greater Cleveland area and Northeast Ohio.
You are technically strong and self-driven, learn quickly, stay composed under pressure, and speak up when you see a better approach, even if others disagree. You want to improve the network, not just close tickets.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Hold CCNA, Network+, or an equivalent industry certification.
Have hands-on experience with Cisco 540 series (IOS), Ciena 5164 (SAOS), or Nokia platforms.
Understand RAN architecture, including 4G LTE and 5G NR vDU environments.
Know hub-and-spoke topologies and IEN hub infrastructure.
Have used network or operations platforms such as USM, CND, INAM, IOP, FUZE, NSP, or OneEMS.
Are comfortable working outdoors at active cell sites in changing weather and conditions.
Have used AI tools such as Claude or Gemini in a technical or professional setting.
You are encouraged to apply even if you do not meet every item in the "even better" list.
