Description

The company runs 64 TV stations across 51 US markets and reaches more than 100 million people each month through websites, mobile apps, streaming and linear TV.

This full-time role is based at the Des Moines station, an ABC and CW affiliate, and sits within the Technology team.

You will handle hands-on upkeep of the station's technical gear, covering traditional broadcast hardware and industry-specific software.

The work means juggling several ongoing projects while also dealing with urgent maintenance in a round-the-clock operation. Strong problem solvers who enjoy technical and IT challenges, communicate well and get along with people are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Keep daily news operations, station equipment and computer-based IT systems running.
  • Install and service broadcast and IT equipment in the studios, at the transmitter site, inside remote broadcast vehicles and at other off-site locations.
  • Diagnose equipment faults and repair them or set up temporary workarounds.
  • Run routine security patches and restart broadcast servers.
  • Write and update technical documentation that correctly describes installed systems.
  • Join field productions on occasion.
  • Carry out minor building maintenance when needed.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in broadcast engineering or a related field.
  • Good organizing, communication and time management skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Stay steady under pressure, act on your own initiative and collaborate well with colleagues.
  • Working knowledge of current computer hardware, networking and Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Able to plan technical projects, report clearly on problem status and project progress, and propose fixes.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work at height, run and install cabling, use hand and power tools, handle small parts and do other physical work.

Conditions

Full-time position.

The station runs 24/7, so you must be available for nights, weekends, holidays and on-call duty.

A current driver's license is required, along with the ability to drive a news gathering vehicle to various locations.

Benefits

  • Two medical plan options for full and part-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, plus dental and eye care, fertility, surrogacy and adoption assistance, and disability and life insurance.
  • Full, part-time and temporary employees can contribute 1% to 80% of pay pre-tax to the 401(k). The company matches 100% of the first 4% of pay, and those matched funds vest from day one.
  • All employees and eligible family members get 9 free virtual doctor visits through Teladoc and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health, whether or not they join a medical plan.
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and 9 paid holidays per year.
  • Some roles are covered by a collective bargaining agreement, so some or all of these benefits may not apply. For example, some newsroom union employees receive health and retirement benefits through union-administered plans.
