Backend Java Developer

Description

The company is a global bank with about 200 million customer accounts, doing business in more than 160 countries and jurisdictions, offering consumer banking and credit, corporate and investment banking, securities brokerage, transaction services and wealth management.

The FXLM technology group supports front office technology operations for one of the world's largest capital markets businesses. The team is hiring a hands-on Java developer for its server side development team based in Mississauga, working on the company Velocity platform, a proprietary ecommerce platform offering multi-asset real-time execution, capital markets intelligence and post-trade services.

This AVP-level role is an intermediate position. You will help establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs with the Technology team, contributing to systems analysis and programming work.

Responsibilities

• Carry out feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, technology risk work, and applications and model development to build new or revised Java systems and programs that meet specific business needs.
• Oversee every stage of development, from analysis and design through construction, testing and rollout, and provide user and operational support to business users.
• Apply deep applications development expertise to complex problems, evaluate business processes, system processes and industry standards, and make sound judgement calls.
• Design and recommend security measures, reviewing how systems are used after launch to confirm they work as intended.
• Advise users, clients and other technology groups, recommend advanced programming solutions, and install and support customer-facing systems.
• Make sure essential procedures are followed and help set operating standards and processes.
• Advise and coach newer or junior analysts, and act as subject matter expert for senior stakeholders and team members.
• Assess risk before business commitments are made, with close attention to the firm's reputation and to protecting Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with laws, rules, regulations and policy, applying ethical judgement, and escalating and reporting control issues openly.
• Work with limited direct supervision and use independent judgement and problem solving.
• Perform other job-related duties as needed.

Requirements

• 5-8 years of relevant experience in Java applications development or systems analysis, with backend server side work preferred.
• Experience in systems analysis and programming of software applications.
• Experience managing and delivering projects successfully.
• Working knowledge of consulting and project management techniques and methods.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle tight deadlines or sudden changes in expectations or requirements.
• Bachelor's degree or university degree, or equivalent experience.
• Optional: 5-8 years of relevant experience in Java applications development or systems analysis, with backend server side work highly desirable.
• Required: strong knowledge of core Java, multithreading, OOP, OOAD and SQL.
• Required: familiarity with building Java applications in a Linux environment, using build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
• Required: ability to work independently or as part of a team, staying goal and task oriented.
• Preferred: experience managing and delivering projects successfully.
• Preferred: working knowledge of consulting and project management techniques and methods.
• Preferred: ability to work under pressure and handle tight deadlines or sudden changes in expectations or requirements.
• Preferred: knowledge of MS SQL, the Spring framework, JMS (Kafka, Solace, Tibco) and caching technology (Gemfire, Redis).
• Preferred: knowledge of building low latency applications, frameworks and techniques.

Conditions

Full time position.

Base salary range for the primary location: $94,300.00 to $141,500.00.
