Backend Engineer - Scala (all genders)

Description

The Digital Experience Composition Platform team decides which content appears to the company's 30+ million active customers while they browse the fashion store. The team combines machine learning based personalization with business rules that drive content selection, so a single code change can reach millions of shoppers.

The team has six engineers in Helsinki and is known for running critical systems carefully while also spending time together outside work, through hiking, frisbee golf, climbing, games and other activities.

Responsibilities

• Own the full lifecycle of important software that millions of customers rely on: discovery, design, development, deployment, operation, monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Build and run high-quality Tier 1 backend services, driving discovery, design and development for new initiatives.
• Work with stakeholders and downstream teams across several locations.
• Take part in planning, technical design documents, code reviews and the team's lean routines.
• Work with product management to define how the team's work supports company initiatives.
• Handle incoming requests, emails and chat messages on behalf of the team with your peers.
• Optionally contribute to frontend components.

Requirements

• Solid production experience with functional and/or JVM languages. Scala is preferred, but the company will teach it to someone who is willing to learn.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs that handle high traffic in production.
• A strong team player who learns from peers, enjoys the work, and helps others grow.
• Experience with microservices, AWS or frontend technologies is a plus but not required.

Conditions

Stack includes Scala, Finch, React, DynamoDB, Redis, PostgreSQL and Kubernetes.

Office in central Kamppi, Helsinki, with flexible working hours and a hybrid work model.
