Description

The company's scientific computing group needs a technology engineer to set up, maintain and support software across on-premises, cloud and hybrid high-performance computing (HPC) environments.

The work connects research applications to HPC resources, automates software deployment, links HPC with internal platforms, helps users and keeps technical documentation current.

You will work with research and development stakeholders on secure, scalable and efficient solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain and support academic, open-source and commercial applications on HPC systems, such as Schrödinger and Posit, using vendor installers, source builds, package managers and containers.
  • Work with the HPC operations team to connect applications to workload schedulers and orchestration platforms such as Slurm and Kubernetes.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that automate building and deploying software images.
  • Make HPC environments and compute resources reliably reachable from other internally built applications.
  • Help users get access to HPC environments, applications and computational workflows and use them effectively.
  • Investigate and fix reported errors, issues and performance problems affecting HPC users and supported applications.
  • Write and update HPC documentation for administrators and users, covering installation, configuration standards, usage and troubleshooting.
  • Explain technical problems, deviations and recommendations to stakeholders, and coordinate with infrastructure, application and research teams on solutions.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, computational science, information technology or a related field plus 2 years of experience, or a master's degree with no additional experience required.
  • Experience running computational software on on-premises or cloud-based HPC systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux and the command line.
  • Experience with HPC schedulers or orchestration platforms such as Slurm or Kubernetes.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot software installation, configuration, integration and runtime problems.
  • Experience with software, package and environment tools such as conda, mamba, EasyBuild or Spack.
  • Experience containerizing applications and environments with Docker or Apptainer.
  • Familiarity with environment modules on HPC systems.
  • Experience using CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions to automate workflows.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, documentation and problem-solving skills.

Conditions
