Description

The company is built around drivers and puts its members at the center of its work, aiming to make it easier and more enjoyable for enthusiasts to drive and enjoy the cars they love.

It is the largest insurer of collectible and enthusiast cars in the world and runs the largest car club in the world.

Its marketplace holds live and online sales in the US and Europe, it hosts driving events and concours, and its award-winning journalists produce the most popular car magazine worldwide, along with internationally awarded videos.

This role sits in the editorial team, which supports the magazine, the digital platforms, video, and new projects as they come up.

This is a generalist role, not a specialist one. You will write sharp stories, organize photo shoots, drive a collector car to a location, follow up leads, fact-check features, and pitch several strong ideas in one week, sometimes in one day. The variety is intentional. One week you might research the history of a little-known muscle car, and the next you might fly out to cover an auction, run a desert shoot, or find the leading expert on a 1967 Camaro Z/28. If that sounds draining, this is not the right fit. If it sounds like the work you want, read on.

Responsibilities

  • Write photo captions, short web features, and reviews of new and old cars, among other pieces.
  • Manage stories and sections from start to finish, handling the logistics and creative side that the company calls trail-bossing.
  • Pitch ideas across several parts of the business.
  • Find and recruit privately owned cars for stories and photo shoots.
  • Carry out photo and background research.
  • Work with colleagues through brainstorming, planning, debate, and decisions that shape every media product, and build your skills in each.
  • Keep stories, photos, and other media assets carefully organized and categorized.
  • Curate, organize, develop, and produce specific sections of the print magazine, learning from senior editors and working closely with freelance writers, photographers, illustrators, and staff from the media and valuation teams.

Requirements

  • A real, deep interest in cars.
  • Strong writing across formats such as features, web copy, social posts, and captions.
  • Good ideas and the confidence to pitch them.
  • Strong organizing skills, so you can manage logistics without being reminded.
  • You start on your own and work things out instead of waiting for instructions.
  • Curiosity beyond cars, including history, culture, people, and business.
  • Comfort moving between platforms and formats.
  • Willing and able to travel regularly.
  • A valid driver's license and comfort driving many kinds of vehicles, including high-value collector cars.
  • Over and above: prior work in journalism, photography, research, editorial support, or a similar media role.
  • Over and above: hands-on experience in or around the automotive industry, the collector car world, or enthusiast media.
  • Over and above: an understanding of how an editorial operation runs from pitch to publication.
  • Over and above: exceptional talent and proven range across editorial formats will be considered in place of traditional experience.
  • Familiarity with public company rules such as Sarbanes-Oxley and other key regulations, where applicable. In SOX-compliant roles you design, run, and document internal controls for areas you own to prevent financial reporting errors, and you attest to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of financial reporting data where applicable.

Conditions

Travel is regular, and you will spend a lot of time on the road.

The role is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with onsite work at the office at least three days a week.

The company welcomes everyone regardless of race, gender, age, or car preference.

Benefits
