Description

The company is a global bank with about 200 million customer accounts, operating in more than 160 countries and jurisdictions. It offers consumer banking and credit, corporate and investment banking, securities brokerage, transaction services, and wealth management.

This is an intermediate programmer analyst role in applications development, sitting in the Enterprise Operations and Technology group. The work is hands-on: scripting, building data pipelines, and automating operations for financial systems that must run accurately and consistently.

You will join cross-functional technology teams alongside developers, data engineers, and business analysts to deliver application enhancements, automate workflows, and fix complex data problems. You will write and debug production scripts, tune job scheduling, and check that financial data stays accurate and complete through reconciliation systems. Your work will directly affect the reliability and performance of systems that support the company's global operations.

You will also act as a technical resource for peers and junior analysts, sharing knowledge to lift the whole team while building your own skills.

Responsibilities

  • Use knowledge of application development procedures and basic knowledge of other technical areas to define system enhancements, using script tools and reading and interpreting code
  • Advise users, clients, and other technology groups on issues, recommend programming solutions, and install and support customer-facing systems
  • Apply foundational programming knowledge to design specifications
  • Test and debug applications, and find vulnerabilities and security issues
  • Coach new and junior analysts
  • Identify problems, analyze information, and make evaluative judgements to recommend and implement fixes
  • Select solutions based on your technical experience and precedent
  • Work with limited direct supervision and use independent judgement
  • Act as subject matter expert for senior stakeholders and team members
  • Assess business risk with attention to the firm's reputation and client and asset safety, drive compliance with laws, rules, and policy, act ethically, and escalate and report control issues transparently

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of relevant financial services experience, including at least 2 years of hands-on application development or scripting and automation
  • Expert in Bash, Ksh, or Sh shell scripting on Unix or Linux, able to write, maintain, and optimize production scripts for automation, data processing, file handling, and system operations
  • Strong SQL skills for writing, debugging, and tuning complex queries on large financial datasets, including validation, joins, aggregations, and filtering
  • Hands-on work with a relational database such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL, including schemas, indexing, and query performance
  • Experience building and supporting ETL pipelines and data workflows with shell scripts and automation tools, including troubleshooting extraction, transformation, and loading end to end
  • Proficient in Python for data manipulation, file parsing, and automation, complementing shell workflows; JSON parsing in shell or Python is a strong plus
  • Experience with enterprise job schedulers such as Autosys or Control-M, including shell-driven jobs, dependency chains, calendars, and failure alerts
  • Fluent in Unix or Linux, including file system navigation, process management, permissions, cron jobs, and environment variables
  • Experience parsing, transforming, and validating CSV, JSON, and XML with tools such as awk, sed, grep, and cut
  • Strong debugging across shell logic, pipeline failures, and scheduling configuration, with a structured approach to production issues
  • Experience using Git to manage scripts, configuration files, and automation code in a team setting
  • Basic understanding of capital markets, trade life cycle, and financial data flows; knowledge of reconciliation and data controls is highly desirable
  • Financial services experience is preferred
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines when expectations or requirements change
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
