Description

The Advanced Product Development (APD) program control team is running a CAT1 new product introduction to supply a qualified military propulsion system that meets critical warfighter needs.

The program takes an advanced engine concept through development, vehicle integration, testing and qualification, ending with a combat-ready propulsion system. The schedule is tight and cost must stay under firm control. Work spans several company groups, suppliers and DoD customers, and customers and company leadership watch it closely.

The Program Control Sr. Staff Engineer works with the program management office (PMO) to drive execution: keeping the IMS on track, managing EVM performance, building customer metrics that show program status, and making sure technical progress shows up in schedule and cost results.

The core of the job is integration and visibility. You will own the engineering program baseline, catch risks and opportunities early, and give leaders the situational awareness they need for quick decisions. You will also work with the DEE team to build dashboards and data pipelines that turn program data into useful insight.

The role calls for strong DoD program management skills in EVM, IMS development, risk management and customer reporting, plus the ability to move between technical detail and business finance. You will brief senior leaders, speak directly with DoD customers and influence people across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the IMS with the PMO, setting critical milestones, sequencing them and assigning resources.
  • Work with functional teams to set realistic task durations, find the critical path, and make sure schedule logic reflects links between engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, test and integration.
  • Run EVM day to day: track CPI and SPI, study variance trends, find root causes and push corrective actions with functional managers.
  • Prepare EVM reports and analyses for internal leaders and customer reviews.
  • Create customer metrics and status reports that show program health, wins and problems. Shape each product to the customer's needs, turn technical progress into schedule and cost stories, and back program reviews and milestone decision briefings with data.
  • Identify and quantify schedule and cost risks and opportunities with technical teams across all program elements.
  • Coordinate across engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, test, finance and external suppliers. Align on objectives, lead cross-functional problem solving, and keep organizational lines from blocking the program.
  • Maintain control of the cost, schedule and technical baselines. Handle baseline change requests, assess their effect on performance, support change board work, and confirm everyone works to the current approved baseline.
  • Work with the DEE team to define KPIs, design visuals that tell the program story, and use digital tools to turn raw data into insight for proactive decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics or mathematics from an accredited college or university, or a high school diploma or GED plus at least 9 years of engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Desired: active Advanced program access.
  • Desired: strong communication, especially with customers, and a proven ability to influence teams.
  • Desired: hands-on use of Jira, Open Plan and Confluence.
  • Desired: experience with DoD customers and their processes.

Conditions

You must obtain and maintain a US government security clearance, and US citizenship is a prerequisite.

Access to US export-controlled information is required, so employment depends on proof of US person status: US lawful permanent resident, US citizen, or someone granted asylee or refugee status (a protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) of the Immigration and Naturalization Act).
