This role gives security engineering and architecture guidance for building, deploying, and integrating AI and machine learning systems, including LLMs and generative AI.

You act as a security advisor to mission partners, system owners, ISSMs, ISSOs, architects, and development teams, keeping mission data and CUI protected across model training, deployment, and inference.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on the security architecture and engineering of AI/ML systems, LLMs, generative AI, and the infrastructure that supports them.
  • Put the NIST AI RMF into practice across the design, integration, deployment, and running of AI/ML systems.
  • Find AI-specific threats and weak points, such as prompt injection, data poisoning, and model evasion, and recommend mitigations.
  • Design and review secure data pipelines that collect, process, train, validate, and feed data to AI/ML models.
  • Build security approaches that protect mission data and CUI used in training and inference.
  • Assess AI/ML architectures and data flows for weaknesses and propose engineering fixes based on likely threats.
  • Turn DoD cybersecurity, RMF, and NIST requirements into practical controls for AI-enabled systems.
  • Work with system owners, architects, developers, ISSMs, and ISSOs to build security into AI/ML capabilities from concept to production.
  • Explain AI security risks, mitigations, and design options to both technical teams and Government leadership.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 10 years of related experience.
  • Hold at least one of these DoD 8140 Work Role 652 (Security Architect) certifications: CCNP Enterprise, GMON, SecurityX / CASP+, CCSP, CISM, CISSO, CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP, Cloud+, CSSLP, FITSP-D, GCIA, GCSA, GDSA, GICSP, or GSEC.
  • Hold a current DoD Top Secret clearance and keep it active.
  • Have demonstrated experience securing AI/ML technologies, including LLMs and generative AI.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of RMF, NIST SP 800-37, NIST SP 800-53, and the NIST AI RMF.
  • Understand AI-specific vulnerabilities and how to mitigate them.
  • Have experience designing or evaluating secure data architectures and pipelines for AI/ML workloads.
  • Can turn cybersecurity requirements into solutions engineers can build.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and speech, explaining complex security topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Can juggle several projects at once in a fast-moving DoD setting.

Conditions

Pay is projected at $150,000+ per year.

Final pay depends on relevant experience, clearance level, certifications, technical skills, contract requirements, and overall qualifications.
