AI Research Scientist - Multimodal Foundational Models

Description

The company builds AI for vehicles and other products, and this role focuses on multimodal foundation models.

You will lead research projects that label, predict, classify, cluster, describe and fuse data from many sensor types, including acoustic, telemetry time series, vibration, radar, lidar, image, Wi-Fi and ultrasound signals.

The goal is better advanced driver assistance systems in vehicles and new AI features in other company products.

You will lead or guide the work of junior researchers and interns, manage project timelines and deliver results on schedule.

Responsibilities

• Lead research on AI projects that work with multi-sensor data to improve advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and enable AI features in other company products.
• Design, build and validate multi-modal deep learning models and Timeseries Foundation Models (TSFM) that handle multivariate time series.
• Extend time series models so they can use auxiliary inputs such as video and images to better understand context.
• Advise the management team on relevant technology areas, supporting strategy, R&D direction and investment decisions.
• Track the latest technical developments and share your findings through high-quality publications and or patent filings.

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or a closely related field, or a Master's degree plus 2 to 3 years of professional experience.
• Experience with Time Series Foundation Models on tasks beyond forecasting.
• Deep experience in signal processing for sensor data and in combining it with deep learning.
• Proficiency in Python and PyTorch, including torchaudio, torchvision and torchmetrics, and familiarity with PyTorch Lightning.
• A strong record of publications at venues such as ICASSP, NeurIPS, InterSpeech, ICML, ICLR, KDD, ICRA, CVPR, ICCV or ECCV, or equivalent contributions such as patents or significant open-source projects.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
• Preferred: 3+ years of industrial research experience.
• Preferred: experience in one or more of data-centric AI, synthetic data generation or agentic AI.
• Preferred: proficiency with Git, an IDE such as VSCode or PyCharm, and experiment tracking tools such as MLflow.
• Preferred: familiarity with high-performance computing systems and job schedulers such as Slurm or LSF.
• Preferred: hands-on product development experience in these areas for consumer or enterprise markets.
• Preferred: experience leading small teams, mentoring junior researchers and interns, managing timelines and delivering within time limits.
