AI Experimentation Engineer

Description

The team tests whether promising AI technologies hold up under realistic conditions before anyone commits to them.

You work in the Technology Validation team within the company's data, analytics and AI organization, turning selected AI ideas into feasibility tests, side-by-side comparisons, demonstrators and short technical spikes.

The team builds to learn and show what works, not to run production systems. Your findings help architecture, platform and delivery groups decide before they adopt a technology.

Responsibilities

• Run short, time-limited experiments and spikes against specific questions, starting with the assumption most likely to change the answer.
• Build prototypes, test harnesses, reference implementations and integrations, scaled to the question and tested in realistic settings.
• Compare AI models, LLMs, services, frameworks and vendor options fairly, using a baseline or alternative when it sharpens the result.
• Build early demos that show stakeholders what new AI can do, even when no business owner has been identified yet.
• Write up method, results and limits concisely, and keep reusable, reproducible technical assets.
• Work with the AI Research Engineer and AI Opportunity Lead, passing evidence, demos and constraints to architecture, platform operations, acceleration and delivery groups. You do not take on delivery or product ownership.

Requirements

• You experiment with new AI tools and models on your own initiative and can point to something recent you built or tested.
• At least 3 years in AI or ML experimentation, prototyping, software engineering, data science or applied AI.
• Strong hands-on programming, mainly in Python (preferred). JavaScript or TypeScript are welcome. You build working prototypes quickly, using AI coding assistants where they help.
• Experience with cloud AI platforms: Azure (preferred), or GCP or AWS (an advantage).
• You have evaluated LLMs, ML models, AI services or integrations, run a time-boxed test, turn the results into a decision, and stop once more work would not change that decision.
• You report negative results as plainly as positive ones and explain limits to non-technical audiences.
• A bachelor's degree or practical experience of equal value is required. A degree in computer science, data science or engineering is an advantage.
• Fluent English.
