Description

The company's Space Sector is hiring a GNC Engineer for State Estimation and Tracking at Level 3 or Level 4, based in Chandler, AZ. The role can be filled at either level.

You would build real-time software, algorithms and 6DOF simulation tools that help design and check missile flight code.

The work covers Kalman filtering, signal and image processing, sensor fusion and physics-based modeling to detect, track and predict hypersonic target paths.

Tools are written in C++, MATLAB and Python to assess EO/IR sensor performance, flight dynamics and simulation output.

The team is focused on missile guidance, navigation and control, and the work is carried out with other engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Build, verify and test the software and simulation tool chains that support missile flight-code development.
  • Create and maintain 6DOF simulations used to design and evaluate missile guidance, navigation and control.
  • Improve real-time state-estimation, tracking, Kalman filtering and sensor-fusion algorithms.
  • Apply signal and image processing to remote-sensor and EO/IR data.
  • Study EO/IR sensor performance and combine sensor data to improve target detection, tracking and trajectory prediction.
  • Build physics-based models and analyze flight dynamics for guided missiles and interceptors.
  • Help develop tracking for hypersonic targets and predict their trajectories so interception can succeed.
  • Write and maintain algorithms and analysis tools in C++, MATLAB and Python.
  • Use probability and statistics to measure algorithm performance, uncertainty and tracking accuracy.
  • Plan, run and analyze simulation experiments, including large Monte Carlo data sets.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to check technical approaches, resolve performance issues and mature flight-code solutions.
  • Write up analysis methods, simulation results, verification activities and technical recommendations.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time as program and customer needs require.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Level 3: a Bachelor's degree with 5 years of professional experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years, or a PhD with 1 year. An additional 4+ years of experience can be considered in place of the degree.
  • Level 3: ability to obtain and keep a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
  • Level 3: hands-on experience with Kalman filtering.
  • Level 3: experience applying signal processing to guided missiles and/or interceptors.
  • Level 3: skill in building and maintaining algorithms and analysis tools in C++, MATLAB and Python.
  • Level 3: solid grounding in probability theory and statistics.
  • Level 3: experience with electro-optical imaging systems.
  • Level 3: ability to travel 10% of the time.
  • Level 4: a Bachelor's degree with 8 years of professional experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years, or a PhD with 4 years. An additional 4+ years of experience can be considered in place of the degree.
  • Level 4: ability to obtain and keep a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
  • Level 4: hands-on experience with Kalman filtering.
  • Level 4: experience applying signal processing to guided missiles and/or interceptors.
  • Level 4: skill in building and maintaining algorithms and analysis tools in C++, MATLAB and Python.
  • Level 4: solid grounding in probability theory and statistics.
  • Level 4: experience with electro-optical imaging systems.
  • Level 4: ability to travel 10% of the time.
  • Preferred: an advanced degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics or applied math.
  • Preferred: experience with onboard and offboard sensor fusion.
  • Preferred: experience analyzing large Monte Carlo data sets and/or designing and analyzing simulation experiments.

Conditions

The role is 100% onsite and cannot be done by telecommuting.

The schedule is 9/80, with every other Friday off.

Relocation assistance may be available.

An interim Secret clearance is required to start.

The position depends on obtaining final clearances and program access within a reasonable period set by the company.
