Description

The company's autonomous vehicle group develops self-driving vehicles using simulation tools and an iterative development process.

The Software Validation team decides when software can ship and when releases continue, using simulation-based verification and validation methods along with targeted vehicle tests.

You will be a machine learning validation engineer on this team, shaping how behavior is evaluated for autonomous vehicles, AI systems and other ADAS features.

You will help set validation best practices, design analyses that define performance requirements, develop new testing approaches, and confirm that autonomous systems are safe and perform well.

You will work with AI developers, systems engineers and safety stakeholders to build solutions that meet their testing needs.

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve AI and ML validation frameworks and tools for autonomous vehicle software.
  • Create automated ML-based testing pipelines for both simulation and real-road validation.
  • Apply machine learning to improve the metrics used to measure simulated performance.
  • Develop ML and statistical tools that find edge cases and failure modes in autonomous driving.
  • Mine large volumes of driving data to locate validation gaps and widen test coverage.

Requirements

  • You are currently enrolled in a Master's program in computer science, machine learning, engineering or a closely related technical field.
  • Your expected graduation falls between December 2027 and August 2028.
  • You have coding experience in Python, SQL, C/C++ or other languages.
  • Preferred: research or work experience in areas such as machine learning, simulation, AI validation, deep learning, reinforcement learning, data mining or computer vision.
  • Preferred: you plan to return to your degree program after the internship.
  • Preferred: you have shown software engineering skill through an internship, a job or coding competitions.
  • Preferred: you have experience with systems software or algorithms.
  • Preferred: you have a record of significant results, such as grants, fellowships, patents, or first-author papers at leading workshops or conferences.
  • Preferred: you show creativity and solve problems quickly.
  • Preferred: you have worked with Hadoop, HBase or Pig, or with MapReduce, Sawzall or Bigtable.

Conditions

Benefits

  • Paid US GM holidays.
  • Access to the GM Family First vehicle discount program.
  • Potential for growth within the company based on results.
