2027 Business Technology Solutions Intern - Data & Software Engineering (Undergraduate)

Description

The company is a pharmaceutical organization, and this 2027 summer internship places you in its Business Technology Solutions program, working alongside a team of experienced leaders and colleagues.

You will be assigned to either the data engineering track or the software and application engineering track.

Responsibilities

• Software and application track: help design, build and maintain enterprise applications across the full stack, using both technical and business understanding.
• Front end: develop, test and upkeep interactive, responsive user interfaces.
• Back end: build services, APIs and microservices in Java with Spring Boot, implement server-side logic, workflows and data pipelines, and improve performance, scalability and reliability.
• Full stack: take ownership of both front-end and back-end work from start to finish.
• Data engineering track: help build, maintain and improve data infrastructure, including databases and data pipelines.
• Support the creation of data, software or technology solutions that answer scientific or business questions.
• Work with a range of tools covering programming, data integration, data warehousing, and visualization and analysis.
• Make sure data is collected, processed and stored efficiently and securely.
• Combine different data sources to lay the groundwork for analytics and data science work.

Requirements

• Be pursuing a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, AI or a related field, or have a minor or concentration in one of these areas.
• Graduate between December 2027 and June 2028.
• Be enrolled at university the semester after the internship, and graduate within one year after it ends.
• Preferred: school or work experience in the software track's stack, such as NodeJS, Vue.js, HTML, Java, JavaScript, SQL, TypeScript, APEX or Python, plus the ability to apply generative AI to custom software. A public code portfolio on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket is strongly preferred.
• Preferred: for the data track, strong programming in Java, Python, R and SQL, experience using APIs to extract data, and experience applying large language models or machine learning algorithms.
• Preferred: previous internship or related experience.
• Technical and business insight, strong analytical skills and creative problem-solving.
• A record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation, initiative and integrity.
• Strong communication, leadership and project management skills.
• Preferred: cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Conditions

This is an 11-week onsite internship.

Most interns are placed in Lake County, IL, though placement may be at any U.S. The company or Allergan Aesthetics location. Preferences are considered, but placement depends on business need.
