Systems Software Engineer

The role is open to candidates currently based in the Greater Chicago area.

You would join the technical team at a client, a leading software company in telecommunications and network optimization, for a Client Solutions Software Engineer position.

The work centres on software deployment, system integration, infrastructure support and technical work with customers in enterprise settings.

Technical environment: Windows and Linux, virtualization with VMware and Citrix, databases including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MongoDB, scripting and automation with PowerShell, Python and Bash, and cloud platforms AWS, Azure and GCP. Docker and Kubernetes container technologies are a nice to have.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and upgrade software in customer environments.
• Plan system architectures and deployment models, and recommend the best fit.
• Troubleshoot issues involving system integration, databases, licensing and infrastructure.
• Train customers on administration and technical use of the software.
• Write and maintain automation scripts for deployment, configuration and troubleshooting.
• Take part in pre-sales and post-sales work, including evaluations, proofs of concept, installations and production support.
• Work with engineering, support and customer success teams to get implementations delivered successfully.
• Contribute to automation and process optimization initiatives.

Requirements

• A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 2-4 years of experience in system administration, software deployment, infrastructure support or database administration.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working in virtualized environments.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
• Scripting experience, ideally with PowerShell, Python or Bash.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with customers.
• Ability to handle infrastructure, software, database and cloud topics.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience deploying and supporting enterprise software.
• Knowledge of automation platforms and workflow orchestration.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Previous customer-facing or consulting experience.

This position is open to candidates currently located in the Greater Chicago area.
