Description

The company's Space Systems Sector is hiring a Level 5 Systems Engineer for its Morrisville, NC team.

The team builds mission software for satellite ground systems. Scrum teams of software and systems engineers set the product vision, manage the backlog and keep features aligned with business goals.

Work follows Agile practices and uses the Atlassian tools, so you need to be comfortable in an Agile environment.

Requisition reference: SPEnhancedERAP.

Responsibilities

  • Define requirements, interfaces, processes, use cases, protocols and schemas for ground segment functions, including the sequence of interactions that drives software design.
  • Lead or contribute to feature development for satellite ground systems, reading CAMEO and MBSE models.
  • Turn customer needs and interface details from working groups into digital artifacts that software teams can build from.
  • Integrate and test software segments, automate tests, verify requirements and deliver to operations.
  • Plan verification and write test requirements and other core products, leading them where needed.
  • Cover requirements and verification, interfaces, architecture, design, integration, test and sell-off.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to set priorities and deliver high-quality mission software on time.
  • Fold user feedback into the product roadmap.
  • Join sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives and reviews, keeping work aligned with the product vision and mission goals.
  • Support the program through full life-cycle milestones in Agile sprints, working independently with little oversight and reporting to leads and the customer.
  • Advise on space-vehicle command and control and work with other teams and unit-level subsystem engineers.
  • Present demos and briefings to customers and senior leadership.
  • Integrate capabilities, epics and features into ground satellite software systems.
  • Use Jira dashboards and Confluence knowledge bases.
  • Lead or support milestone preparation and Agile product increments.
  • Work across several working groups and control boards.
  • Scope can be adjusted to the skills and experience of the selected candidate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 12+ years of engineering experience, a Master's in a STEM field with 10+ years, or a PhD in a STEM field with 8+ years.

  • 2+ years building and evaluating behavioral and structural architecture diagrams with MBSE methods and tools, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years using No Magic Cameo or equivalent.
  • Experience with space-vehicle, command-and-control, mission management, mission data processing, or software subsystems.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, shown through requirements and test and evaluation criteria.
  • 2+ years producing systems engineering processes and artifacts for software development, such as use cases, interface control documents, class and sequence diagrams, database design, schema development, and protocols such as REST, HTTP and RESP, or equivalent.
  • Experience on Agile programs and methods.
  • Preferred: active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Preferred: 3+ years with command-and-control, network management, flight dynamics, and/or orbit determination for space-vehicle software.
  • Preferred: experience with space vehicle subsystems such as thermal, power, attitude control, propulsion, and/or communications.
  • Preferred: familiarity with cloud architectures such as Kubernetes, containers and orchestrators.
  • Preferred: experience with mission-focused threads.
  • Preferred: experience with the software development lifecycle.
