Description

The company's Space Systems Sector is hiring a Systems Engineer, Level 3 for its Morrisville, NC location.

The role sits in a scrum team of software and systems engineers who set the product vision, manage the backlog and make sure features support business goals. The work is mission-focused software for satellite ground systems, delivered in Agile sprints using the Atlassian suite.

You will bring space domain knowledge and systems engineering experience, and you will work on the Ground Segment Functions of a system.

Posting code: SPEnhancedERAP.

This position depends on the company winning program awards and securing matching business or customer funding. It also depends on you getting final clearances and program access within a reasonable time, as the company decides. Keeping the job after that requires keeping the clearance and access level the role needs.

Responsibilities

  • Drive features for the satellite ground systems domain, reading CAMEO and MBSE models.
  • Join working groups, learn customer needs and interfaces, and turn them into digital artifacts that software teams can build from.
  • Support or lead verification planning, test requirements and other key products.
  • Cover systems engineering work across requirements and verification, interfaces, architecture, design, integration, test and sell-off.
  • Take part in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives and reviews, keeping work aligned with the product vision and mission goals.
  • Be the subject matter expert for space-vehicle command and control, and work with other teams and unit-level engineers on subsystems.
  • Give demos and briefings to customers and senior leadership.
  • Make sure capabilities, epics and features fit together with the ground satellite software.
  • Use Jira dashboards and Confluence knowledge bases.
  • Support or lead milestone work and Agile product increments.
  • Work with several working groups and control boards.
  • Scope can be adjusted to the selected candidate's skills and experience.
  • Define requirements, interfaces, processes, use cases, protocols, schemas and interaction sequences that shape the software design.
  • Integrate and test software segments, automate tests, verify requirements and hand products to operations.
  • Support a program through every life-cycle milestone in Agile sprints.
  • Incorporate user feedback to refine the product roadmap and respond to changing customer needs.
  • Prioritise tasks with cross-functional teams so high-quality software is delivered on time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 5+ years of engineering experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM field plus 3 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM field plus 1 year of experience.
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance (or equivalent) when you apply and before your start date, plus the ability and willingness to obtain and keep an active SCI before your start date. Staying employed later requires keeping the clearance and program access the role needs.
  • Experience building behavioural and structural architecture diagrams with MBSE methods and tools, or equivalent.
  • Experience with No Magic Cameo, or equivalent.
  • Experience with space-vehicle, command-and-control, mission management, mission data processing or software subsystems.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, shown through requirements, test and evaluation criteria.
  • Experience producing systems engineering artifacts for software work, such as use cases, interface control documents, class and sequence diagrams, database design, schemas and protocols like REST, HTTP and RESP, or equivalent.
  • Experience working on Agile programs and with Agile methods.
  • Preferred: active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Preferred: experience with command and control, network management, flight dynamics and/or orbit determination for space-vehicle software.
  • Preferred: experience with space-vehicle subsystems such as thermal, power, attitude control, propulsion and/or communications.
  • Preferred: familiarity with cloud architectures such as Kubernetes, containers and orchestrators.
  • Preferred: experience with mission-focused threads.
  • Preferred: experience with the software development lifecycle.
  • Preferred: experience with JIRA and Confluence.
  • Preferred: experience with a geographically distributed team.
