Description

The company is a global technology business with more than 83,000 employees across five continents, including over 7,500 in the UK, working in defence, space, aerospace and digital security.

The Under Water Systems (UWS) division builds underwater sensors and decision tools for navies worldwide, across four sectors: Mine Counter Measures, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Services and Future Capabilities.

As Systems Engineer for testing, support environment and delivery, you will help deliver UWS and sonar systems. You will learn the testing and verification work, build an understanding of the support environment, work closely with Field Service Engineers (FSEs), and take part in engineering-led delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Get up to speed on test approaches such as integration, acceptance and regression where they apply, along with test documents and the evidence they call for.
  • Help get testing ready by making sure procedures, configurations, prerequisites and traceability are in place.
  • Gather technical evidence for defect and issue investigations and link findings to requirements and interfaces where relevant.
  • Help capture evidence and close issues.
  • Learn how installation, commissioning and operational support work, and what it involves.
  • Spot how support constraints such as procedures, tooling, operating limits and maintenance expectations affect test results and delivery progress.
  • Turn what you learn about the support environment into engineering actions and pass clear feedback to the right technical owners.
  • Learn the relevant engineering handbooks and standards, and apply them to your documentation, test evidence, configuration control and governance.
  • Follow the document and control processes used in controlled engineering environments.

Requirements

  • Practical experience supporting testing or verification, or working in teams where test evidence and readiness are critical.
  • Clear knowledge of commissioning, installation or operational support, or comparable industrial experience.
  • A track record of working with FSEs or equivalent field or site support teams to resolve issues and close them out.
  • Experience contributing to delivery, including tracking milestones, actions and dependencies, and reporting progress.
  • Familiarity with relevant engineering handbooks and standards, and applying them to engineering and testing work.
  • UK eyes only: the role requires you to be a UK national and to obtain and keep Security Clearance (SC) with no caveats. Holding SC already is an advantage. If you do not hold it, you must obtain it before you start. With MOD approval, a dual national from a non-ITAR country may be considered.
  • To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years. In some cases, 3 years' UK residence over the last 5 years may be accepted, with extra overseas checks. Guidance is on the UK Security Vetting website.

Conditions

The company ensures equal opportunities, pay and working conditions for everyone.

The team is based within the wider UWS business and works in a controlled engineering environment.

Benefits

  • Private medical insurance, buying or selling annual leave, cycle to work scheme, employee discounts, one paid volunteering day, a share scheme, an annual bonus and more, depending on the role.
