Description

The company builds autonomous distributed tracking systems in its Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration business unit, within the Advanced Programs group. The team is a high-performing software group that pushes engineering and mathematics forward for a warfighter advantage.

The role is on-site in Boulder, CO, a town in the Rocky Mountain foothills about 25 miles from downtown Denver.

Relocation assistance may be available. A active Secret clearance is required to start. Travel is 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Bring Agile practices into an Advanced Programs program and manage them day to day as the main point of contact for systems engineering on it.
  • Plan and lead program increments, and schedule and run PI planning and backlog reviews for both the government customer and internal teams.
  • Manage work flow within teams, between teams and across work centers using Jira Scrum and Kanban boards.
  • Keep Jira aligned with the customer's requirement to map SOW tasks to epics and stories at each PI boundary, and keep that cadence within each PI so the customer can track technical progress.
  • Find constraints, remove dependencies that create bottlenecks, and cut wait times to raise throughput.
  • Find recurring processes that can be standardized.
  • Manage and prune the backlog with technical leads.
  • Work with project leads to phase milestones and map epics, features and stories to them. Build Confluence and Jira templates for them.
  • Coordinate several Agile teams so their practices stay aligned.
  • Improve processes, remove impediments and get more value out of delivery.
  • Serve as a key liaison between teams and stakeholders when organizational problems come up.
  • Build a culture of respect and psychological safety that helps people on the train collaborate.
  • Build metrics that track project progress and show where work is efficient or wasteful.
  • Lead engineering process development, continuous improvement and affordability work within the program.
  • Communicate regularly with program management, customers and engineering management.
  • Produce the documentation the program needs.
  • Resolve problems, recommend improvements and manage your time well.
  • Work in a fast-paced setting with high expectations and varied assignments, collaborating with people at every level.

Requirements

  • A STEM bachelor's degree from an accredited university plus 5 years of related experience, or a master's degree plus 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of experience with a PhD.
  • Strong technical writing skills for analyses and reports.
  • Experience leading Agile teams and hands-on experience with Jira.
  • Experience with the MS Office suite, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
  • A current, active U.S. Government-issued Secret clearance that is in scope at the time you apply. It is required to start.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
  • Preferred: willingness to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Preferred: knowledge of requirements management tools such as DOORS and Cameo.
  • Preferred: experience on programs that use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Preferred: experience with Lean and Scaled Agile Framework approaches.
  • Preferred: experience moving mature teams from Waterfall to Agile.
  • Preferred: understanding of project budgets and how budgeting works in an Agile environment.
