Description

The company is the company, which sells a unified API and AI connectivity platform used to secure, manage, govern and monetize API and AI traffic across any model and any cloud. Its customers range from Fortune 500 firms to AI-native startups.

This Staff Solutions Engineer role is based in the West region, as the posting titles it. You would act as a technical advisor to large enterprises as they design secure, scalable API ecosystems and move toward agentic AI.

The posting says you do not need to meet every item below to apply. The company is looking for people who are strong in a few areas and have some interest and ability in the rest.

Responsibilities

  • Work with field sales to show customers the value of the platform.
  • Hold discovery conversations to learn customer requirements and match them to the company solutions, from first product reviews through to production.
  • Run proofs of concept across the full evaluation, owning the technical validation and keeping stakeholders aligned.
  • Keep customers satisfied across your assigned accounts.
  • Work with support, product and engineering teams to press for customer needs.
  • Write technical documentation for DevOps, implementation and services engagements.
  • Lead or support API management and AI governance evaluations, including scoping API and AI use cases, LLM traffic management and governance requirements.
  • Demonstrate the company's API and AI governance and agentic connectivity features, such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) governance, semantic caching, prompt guardrails and shadow AI detection.
  • Run API and AI focused Technical Feasibility Workshops (TFWs) to test the company's fit for modern and AI or agentic architectures.
  • Own the technical strategy for complex enterprise deals with many stakeholders, from qualification to close.
  • Mentor and coach junior SEs on technical skills, discovery and deal strategy.
  • Build thought leadership through technical blogs, webinars and talks at industry events and conferences such as AWS re:Invent, Google Next, the API & AI summit and regional events.
  • Turn customer feedback and market signals into practical input for the product team.
  • Take on other tasks your manager assigns.

Requirements

  • Have 7+ years of software engineering or solutions engineering experience at a SaaS, open source or enterprise software company.
  • Have a proven record of owning complex enterprise deals with multiple technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Have experience mentoring or coaching SEs or other technical team members.
  • Have experience with Docker, Kubernetes and cloud-native platforms.
  • Have experience with REST and GraphQL APIs, CI/CD pipelines and API security patterns such as OAuth2, OIDC and mTLS.
  • Have hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex or equivalent. This is required.
  • Have working knowledge of AI and LLM architectures, including model routing, rate limiting, semantic caching and prompt governance.
  • Be familiar with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and agentic AI patterns.
  • Have a solid grasp of cloud computing trends and open source business models.
  • Be a strong listener and communicator who can lead discussions with engineers, architects and executives.
  • Be comfortable in a high-profile, fast-moving environment at the intersection of API and AI connectivity.
