Description

The company is building the largest swarming UAV and a highly versatile network of swarming aircraft. It is close to launching its first aircraft designed for swarming, along with Command & Control software that lets human operators direct swarms of thousands of mixed autonomous aircraft.

The team has founded and exited several startups, won defense deals worth billions of dollars, and designed and built more than 30 new aircraft. Members bring aerospace experience from Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic.

This role is on the backend of the Command & Control platform. The work centers on real-time distributed systems, high-throughput telemetry pipelines, and infrastructure for a problem with few precedents, rather than standard API and database work.

Responsibilities

  • Help design the backend of a Command & Control system that directs swarms of mixed aircraft
  • Build real-time, distributed infrastructure that lets operators control many aircraft at once, including when communications are interrupted
  • Design and build services that ingest, process, and distribute dense telemetry, sensor data, scheduling, crew resources, and data link management, often without an established approach to follow
  • Take backend features from design through to deployment
  • Release work early and often, supported by CI/CD, QA, and DevSecOps practices

Requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years building complex backend systems with substantial distributed systems depth
  • Strong focus on reliability, performance, and scalability, plus the tools to achieve them
  • Experience building and running production backend services and APIs at scale
  • Sets you apart: experience with real-time and event-driven distributed systems
  • Sets you apart: a track record building performance-sensitive, high-throughput applications
  • Sets you apart: familiarity with messaging and streaming protocols
  • Sets you apart: experience running systems under degraded or intermittent connectivity
  • Sets you apart: experience with geospatial data or applications

Conditions

You must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance. An active Secret clearance is preferred but not required.

To comply with U.S. Government export regulations, applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents of the U.S., protected individuals under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

The role is office-based, as the company offers a daily catered lunch in the office.

Benefits

  • Meaningful equity in a fast-growing defense technology company
  • Competitive base salary based on experience
  • Medical, dental, vision, and 401k coverage
  • PTO and paid sick leave
  • Monthly wellness stipend
  • Daily catered lunch in the office
  • Paid parental leave
  • The chance to contribute directly to a critical national security mission
  • Working alongside a strong group of engineers and operators on difficult problems
