Staff Software Engineer for NextGen In-Vehicle Infotainment Systems - DevOps

  • Hybrid
  • 6+ years

Salary

$189,300/ year

Description

This is a staff-level role on the team that runs the delivery pipeline for NextGen in-vehicle infotainment software, moving code from engineers into vehicles used by millions of people daily.

You will lead the design, build, and running of the build, test, release, and developer productivity systems that let the team ship reliably at scale.

The role calls for owning work end to end, sound architecture judgment, and steering technical direction across teams without formal authority.

You will work with engineering, release management, quality, infrastructure, and program stakeholders to update CI/CD, speed up developers, add observability, and set a higher bar for reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical strategy and architecture for DevOps, CI/CD, and build platforms that serve NextGen infotainment across several vehicle programs.
  • Design and tune scalable CI/CD pipelines for Yocto-based embedded Linux builds, covering orchestration, test automation, artifact management, release workflows, distributed builds with BuildBarn or RBE, and caching.
  • Automate branching, versioning, artifact promotion, quality gates, and compliance checks in the release process.
  • Build self-service platforms, GitHub automation, and dashboards that cut manual work and shorten developer feedback loops.
  • Lead cross-functional work from concept to production, drive end-to-end observability and operational excellence, and mentor engineers while raising the bar through design reviews, process improvement, and hiring.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, or have equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Have 10+ years in software engineering, DevOps, build, platform, or release engineering at staff level, including leading large multi-team technical efforts from design through production.
  • Have built and run scalable CI/CD systems and developer platforms with tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar.
  • Have experience with embedded Linux build systems, cross-compilation, or complex platform build pipelines.
  • Write solid code in Python, Bash, Groovy, or similar, and have worked with Docker, Kubernetes, and at least one major cloud.
  • Have hands-on observability practice across metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerting, and be able to mentor, shape architecture, and deliver in a matrixed organization.
  • Preferred: experience in automotive, embedded systems, infotainment, Android Automotive, Linux IVI, QNX, or related areas.
  • Preferred: experience with Yocto / OpenEmbedded and ARM-based embedded platforms.
  • Preferred: experience with distributed builds, remote build execution, large-scale build caching, and internal developer platforms or engineering productivity tools.
  • Preferred: familiarity with artifact repositories, static analysis, code quality, and security scanning tools such as Artifactory or SonarQube, plus observability or delivery tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana, in large multi-repo, multi-team release programs.
  • Preferred: experience applying AI or ML to DevOps work, such as predicting build failures, selecting tests intelligently, or detecting anomalies, or familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools.

Conditions

This is a hybrid role: you will report to Austin, TX; Mountain View, CA; Warren, MI; or Seattle, WA at least three times per week, or at the frequency your manager sets.

Expect regular travel, about 25-50% of the time.

Base salary ranges from $189,300 to $290,700, and the actual offer falls within that range based on factors relevant to the position.

The pay figure is a good-faith estimate under applicable state law and may not reflect roles outside the California Bay Area.

Candidates may be asked to complete a role-related assessment and/or pre-employment screening before starting, where applicable.

The company is committed to a workplace free of unlawful discrimination that also fosters inclusion and belonging.

Benefits

  • An incentive pay program pays out based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
  • Company vehicle evaluation program: after a motor vehicle report review, you can join and be assigned a company vehicle to drive and evaluate. Participants must buy or lease a qualifying company vehicle every four years, unless one of a limited set of exceptions applies.
  • Relocation benefits may be available to candidates who qualify under company policy.
  • Well-being support from day one, at work and at home, plus total rewards resources to help you plan your career.
