Description

The role is a Staff Software Engineer at IC4 level in the Data Platform Engineering group.

You will be a hands-on engineer who owns well-scoped components and projects and carries them from start to finish.

The work supports US regulated markets.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and run components and services on the cloud-native platform, from first design through to production.
• Lead well-scoped projects on your team, turning requirements and rough ideas into sound technical designs and then delivering them.
• Work with senior, staff, and principal engineers to keep your work aligned with platform architecture and standards.
• Make what you build reliable, scalable, and easy to operate by writing tests and instrumentation, improving runbooks, and taking part in on-call.
• Spend most of your time coding operators, controllers, automation, and platform services that other teams rely on.
• Coach junior engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pair programming.

Requirements

• Have hands-on experience using AI in engineering work, such as AI-powered coding and operations tools, workflow automation, or reasoning about how AI changes how software and infrastructure get built.
• Bring 8+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree, 5+ years with a Master's degree, 3+ years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
• Have 5+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating workloads on Kubernetes.
• Have working experience with at least one major hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including its core compute, networking, and IAM primitives.
• Have a track record of delivering complex features or services as a key contributor.
• Know containers, CI/CD, GitOps-based delivery, and infrastructure as code well.
• Be strong in Go, or in another systems language and willing to work primarily in Go.
• Helps to have: experience building Kubernetes controllers or working with the operator pattern.
• Helps to have: familiarity with container networking (CNI) or service mesh.
• Helps to have: experience with workload identity, mTLS, or secrets management.
• Helps to have: experience with observability, including metrics, tracing, and dashboards.
• Helps to have: experience with managed Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, GKE) and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.

Conditions

Hybrid role: you spend 2 days per week in a company office. Offices are in San Francisco, CA; Pleasanton, CA; Santa Clara, CA; San Diego, CA; and Kirkland, WA.

Base pay for this location is between $149,800 and $262,200, plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.

Base pay is a guideline. Individual total compensation depends on qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location, and may change with work location.

Sales positions generally offer an On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure.

Work persona (flexible, remote, or required in office) is assigned based on the nature of the work and the assigned work location. Eligibility may be checked by measuring the distance from your primary residence to the nearest company office with a third-party service.
