Description

The company is a Series B startup that designs, manages, and optimizes sales compensation. It handles billions in commissions each year for large enterprise clients.

It builds enterprise software that helps organizations improve sales performance and go-to-market agility. Engineering is split into several product application teams that deliver core customer-facing features.

You will join the TQM team as a Staff Software Engineer and work with staff, senior, and early-career engineers to design, build, and scale backend and frontend systems for enterprise product workflows. The problems are complex in both product and data, and you will influence technical decisions, system quality, and delivery.

TQM stands for Territory and Quota Management and forms the planning layer of the platform. Sales ops groups rely on it to plan large sales organizations: they split the target market among sellers, set and share targets, and handle changes during the year. Commissions, crediting, and reporting all depend on its data.

The team uses AI tools daily, so writing code is rarely the bottleneck. The harder part is making the right call repeatedly. This role needs strong product and technical judgement: choosing the problem, telling a recurring customer request from a one-off, delivering quickly in an AI-assisted workflow, and designing systems that last for years. The team's direction depends heavily on these decisions.

First 30 days: learn the platform by working in it, ship several production changes across more than one area, read the domain and design documents, talk with product owners and customer-facing teams, and share where the current system falls short.

First 60 days: lead the permission model and the plan for audit history and approvals from problem statement to agreed design, adjust scope or order based on customer evidence, get engineers building on the design, and improve how the team designs, reviews, or tests its work.

First 90 days: deliver the first enterprise features to production for customer planning, make decisions that Product and Engineering trust without revisiting, and help set direction for new product areas.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design of TQM enterprise capabilities covering permissions, audit history, and approval workflows.
  • Work across frontend and backend to deliver a strong product experience.
  • Build these features as reusable parts so future product areas can adopt them without rewriting them.
  • Find out from customers how planning is governed in their organizations and convert that into a delivery plan.
  • Choose what to leave out, cut scope that does not serve a customer, and state the reasons plainly.
  • Define the technical direction for how these features connect to the wider platform.
  • Produce design documents and decision records for the team to build from, and review peers' documents to a high standard.
  • Stay hands-on: write the hardest pieces yourself and make sure they run reliably in production.
  • Bring strong views to product ideation discussions.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience running production systems, including leading the design of a product area or platform.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin, Java, or a comparable language, and comfort across the stack, including TypeScript and React on the frontend.
  • Strong SQL skills, relational schema design, and data modelling, including models that evolved over many years.
  • Good technical judgement, shown by being able to describe major decisions, what you rejected, and how those decisions held up.
  • Good product judgement, shown by having shaped what was built and explaining how you weighed customer value, cost, and risk.
  • Experience talking with customers or customer-facing teams and turning that input into product decisions.
  • Daily, critical use of AI coding tools and a clear position on how a team should work with them.
  • Clear, precise writing. Assume readers will spend as much effort on your docs as you did writing them, and never send unreviewed AI output to others.
  • Experience with rule-driven systems, validation workflows, or approval and governance features.
  • Exposure to Sales Performance Management, RevOps, Incentive Compensation, or financial planning.
  • Experience with analytical databases or large-scale data processing.
  • Familiarity with AWS and Kubernetes.
  • Current stack: TypeScript, React, TanStack Router and Query, Tailwind, and shadcn/ui on the frontend; Kotlin, Spring Boot, and Postgres on the backend; AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and OpenTofu for infrastructure; AI coding agents (Codex or Claude Code) across design, implementation, and review.
