Staff Forward Deployed AI Engineer (m/f/d)

Description

The company is a sports technology business working where sports, media and betting meet. More than 1,700 federations, media outlets, betting operators and consumer platforms in 120 countries use its technology and expertise.

This role works like an in-house consultant. You are placed inside other departments and business units, speak with the business, pinpoint the real issues, reduce complexity, streamline processes, and then build the AI solution. You work largely on your own with minimal oversight, handle competing priorities and organisational complexity to move work forward, set the technical direction for your use cases, and lead LLM and agentic systems from discovery through to production.

Responsibilities

• Meet department leads and teams to learn how work currently gets done, then identify and clearly state the problems.
• Turn messy situations into well-defined problems with scope, success measures and a delivery plan.
• Simplify business processes and judge where AI adds value and where it does not.
• Work through stakeholders, approvals and competing priorities so that work keeps moving.
• Set the technical strategy and architecture for your internal projects.
• Build and ship production agentic and LLM systems covering retrieval (RAG), tool use, context and prompt design, guardrails and observability.
• Create and run evaluations, including test sets, regression suites and monitoring, to steer design and model decisions.
• Guide teammates, review their designs, and pass on patterns that others can reuse.

Requirements

• Typically 8+ years of software engineering experience, including senior work alongside business stakeholders.
• Able to explain things clearly to business people and engineers alike, senior leaders included.
• Driven and comfortable working alone on unclear tasks with minimal oversight.
• Can manage organisational complexity alongside competing priorities, keeping work moving.
• Skilled at finding problems and analysing them, with experience simplifying complex processes or systems.
• Experience building and running production systems, with solid system design skills.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and agents, including prompting, tool use, RAG and evaluation.
• Strong Python, experience with data pipelines, and experience on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Consulting or internal consulting experience.
• Based in Leipzig. Travel between company offices may be required; the hiring team will confirm how much.

Conditions
