The work improves global missile launch detection, supports the national missile defense system, expands technical intelligence gathering, and strengthens situational awareness for warfighters.

Payloads in the team's portfolio span proposal and design, requirements and verification, ground testing and calibration, launch and on-orbit testing, and sustainment with anomaly resolution.

The role is contingent on program award and on obtaining final clearances and program access within a timeframe the company sets. Staying employed requires keeping the clearance and access the role needs.

  • Support payload design and payload and space vehicle integration and testing.
  • Analyze line-of-sight calibration system performance for on-orbit payloads.
  • Support flight readiness testing of payload and ground systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 12 or more years of relevant work experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM field plus 10 years of experience, or a PhD in a STEM field plus 8 years of relevant experience.

  • Professional or coursework experience in applied math.
  • Experience with electro-optical pointing hardware such as encoders, resolvers, inertial measurement units, and motors.
  • Basic understanding of MATLAB.
  • Technical understanding of line-of-sight calibration, including mechanical and optical misalignment compensation in space, and calibration errors from gyros, IMUs, and optical encoders.
  • Understanding of orbital mechanics, common orbital reference frames, and time systems.
  • Desired: a strong background in numerical methods and statistics.
  • Desired: working knowledge of Kalman filtering and least squares estimation.
  • Preferred: an active Top Secret clearance with SCI.
  • Preferred: experience with pointing and control flight software, such as onboard attitude propagation and calibration, motor control, and anomaly, diagnostic, and resolution applications.
  • Preferred: professional experience applying mathematics to embedded systems and numerical error analysis.
  • Preferred: technical understanding of line-of-sight calibration and working knowledge of Kalman filtering and least squares estimation.
  • Preferred: proficiency in MATLAB and object-oriented programming.
  • Preferred: understanding of payload operations for OPIR.
  • Preferred: familiarity with common tools in both MS Windows and Unix environments.
