Description

The company builds electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) and test scripts that check spacecraft avionics before flight, and the team works on these test solutions for multiple spacecraft programs.

You would own a test solution from start to finish, covering hardware, software, documentation and testing, and see your work feed into mission readiness and customer acceptance.

The company will train you on its specialised tools and power architectures, including Intercept Mozaix and EPS.

You do not need every preferred skill to apply. Strong candidates typically meet about 80% of the list and show a willingness to learn.

Location: onsite in Phoenix, AZ.

Early on you would get structured onboarding with a mentor and exposure to several spacecraft programs.

Targeted training would cover the company's tools and power architectures, and advanced LabVIEW frameworks.

Over time you could progress toward a lead or architect EGSE role and take on mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Choose commercial off-the-shelf instruments, design custom test boxes and panels, and build the cabling and harnesses for spacecraft avionics EGSE.
  • Build LabVIEW user interfaces and virtual instruments for instrument control and telemetry, and write automation scripts in Python and or Perl.
  • Connect test setups to embedded single board computers and custom analog and digital I/O for Command and Data Handling (C&DH), and support EPS power switching use cases.
  • Write formal test documents, including Integration and Test Plans, Environmental Test Plans, Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs), and configuration-controlled schematics and BOMs.
  • Run functional and environmental test campaigns, troubleshoot anomalies, drive root cause analysis and corrective actions, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Work with systems, firmware, manufacturing test and program management to meet schedule, cost and technical goals.

Requirements

  • Must-Have: at least 7 years of aerospace or defense test engineering, with hands-on ownership of EGSE hardware, software and documentation.
  • Must-Have: production-grade LabVIEW for instrument control and operator interfaces.
  • Must-Have: C for embedded systems.
  • Must-Have: Python and or Perl for test automation and data handling.
  • Must-Have: practical experience choosing and integrating commercial instruments such as power supplies, loads, DAQ and oscilloscopes, and designing custom fixtures and cable assemblies.
  • Must-Have: ability to write clear ATPs and Integration and Test Plans, and to keep schematics and parts lists accurate.
  • Must-Have: strong debugging across analog and digital interfaces, with the ability to read schematics and interpret telemetry.
  • Must-Have: U.S. person status, as the work is export-controlled.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with VxWorks on embedded single board computers.
  • Nice to have: experience with cPCI single board computers and C&DH architectures.
  • Nice to have: exposure to EPS backplanes, including power switching and solar array or battery management.
  • Nice to have: VHDL and FPGA interface testing.
  • Nice to have: cable and harness design, with knowledge of EMI, EMC, shielding and grounding practices.
  • Nice to have: experience with Intercept Mozaix or a similar schematic, BOM and document control system.
  • Nice to have: environmental test support, such as thermal vacuum, vibration and EMI/EMC testing.

Base salary: $130,000 to $155,000, depending on DOE, seniority and skills.

Phoenix, AZ pay range: $125,000.00 to $150,000.00 per year. Actual pay depends on location, experience and performance, and the range is one part of total rewards.
