Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of data and software engineers, set clear performance expectations, and build an inclusive, high-performing group.
  • Take part in hiring, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Set the technical direction for the team's platforms, covering architecture, modeling, ingestion, transformation, storage, APIs, and governance.
  • Guide the building of reusable data models and shared capabilities that serve several business domains and cut down on fragmented solutions.
  • Work with Product, Analytics, Finance, Security, Legal/Privacy, TPMO, and Engineering to turn business priorities into roadmaps, milestones, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Lead key initiatives such as platform modernization, analytics enablement, data quality work, and moving critical metrics onto trusted sources.
  • Work with senior engineering leaders on resourcing, investment priorities, and competing demands.
  • Set and maintain standards for data quality, reliability, observability, security, performance, and cost.
  • Make engineering more efficient and the platform easier to sustain through automation, documentation, reusable practices, and clear ownership.
  • Set up team practices for planning, design, delivery, incident management, and continuous improvement.
  • Spot technical and delivery risks early, clear dependencies, and share decisions, tradeoffs, and recommendations with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 8+ years in data engineering, platform engineering, or backend engineering.
  • 3+ years leading people, with a record of growing engineers, managing performance, and building strong teams.
  • Experience owning technical roadmaps and leading complex engineering work while balancing business priorities against scalability, reliability, security, performance, and cost.
  • Strong technical judgment across data architecture, distributed systems, data modeling, pipelines, cloud platforms, and production operations.
  • Experience building engineering practices that make delivery more predictable, operations more reliable, and teams more effective.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and business judgment, with the ability to work through ambiguity, set priorities among competing needs, and align technical and business teams.
  • Experience building or modernizing enterprise data platforms, including reusable, trusted data capabilities and data governance across quality, lineage, ownership, privacy, and access controls.
  • Experience with Python or Scala, SQL, Spark, Kafka, Airflow, AWS services, and Snowflake or comparable platforms.
