Description

The company is hiring a senior manager to lead its data engineering team. You will stay close enough to the technical work to guide architecture and help the team through blockers.

You will own the roadmap and delivery for data ingestion and pipeline systems, from raw intake of varied sources through staging to curated layers, and you will be accountable for the people, priorities and technical direction behind that work.

You will work with data modeling, analytics and product leaders to make sure the team works on the right problems.

The company makes athletic apparel that works for workouts and moves into everyday wear, with a casual coastal California look.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, coach, develop and review the performance of data engineers, and plan their career growth.
  • Set the technical roadmap and strategy for ingestion and pipeline architecture, in line with wider data platform goals.
  • With data modeling, analytics and product leaders, set engineering priorities based on business needs.
  • Work with the data modeling function so pipeline output fits downstream semantic and dimensional models, and fix handoff problems between raw ingestion and analytics-ready data.
  • Set team processes and engineering standards for sprint planning, code review, on-call and incident response, and testing.
  • Serve as the final decision point for complex technical and architecture questions on pipeline design, ingestion patterns and reliability.
  • Represent data engineering in cross-functional planning and leadership discussions, explaining technical trade-offs in business terms.
  • Balance capacity across active projects, weighing new feature work against technical debt and reliability.
  • Stay hands-on with Azure Data Factory, Snowflake and API and file ingestion so you can make sound architecture calls and coach the team through hard problems.

Requirements

  • Experience managing and growing a team of data engineers, including hiring, coaching and performance management.
  • Strong hands-on background in data engineering, covering pipeline design, ingestion patterns and cloud data warehousing.
  • Experience setting technical roadmaps and prioritizing across competing initiatives and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including work with analytics, product and business leaders.
  • At least 8 years in data engineering or a related field, including a formal people-management role.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Preferred: Experience with Azure Data Factory and Snowflake.
  • Preferred: Experience scaling a data engineering team through significant growth.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with dbt, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, ARM/Bicep) and broader CI/CD practices.
  • Preferred: Experience managing vendor relationships or tooling budgets.
  • Preferred: Exposure to real-time analytics or streaming technologies.

Salary range is $146,100 to $206,010 per year.
